We meet each month on the first Monday from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room and the third Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Contact Thomas May for further information at (951) 743-2127 or email thomasmay0922@gmail.com. How do you approach writing a novel? Do you have the characters and events mapped out in a storyboard when you start? This approach allows you to proceed sequentially, defining the context and the setting, developing the characters, and then the events in order. Or do you have the major parts mapped out in chapter titles, then write the individual chapters? This is good especially if you like the development of earlier chapters to guide the later chapters. This is very common. Or perhaps you like to pick a type of writing (e.g., novel) and a genre (e.g., detective novel), then start writing. In this approach, you don't even know how the novel will end, but you are guided each step of the way by the parts you have already written. This may seem counterintuitive, but a lot of writers like this approach because of its emphasis on imagination throughout. The choice is yours. Good practice for the last approach is a team story in which a team of writers each write their part, then pass it on to the next writer. Our Creative Writers Club has several experienced writers in many forms of literature. Come join us at Creative Writing Club meetings to share your ideas in a friendly setting, and listen to the writings and opinions of others. You will find this very stimulating. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2024 | 37 Creative Writers the third Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the Computer Club Our meetings are on the third Thursday of each month at 1 pm in the Multipurpose Room.
