34 | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2024 | Shuffle, hop step… you remember that, don't you? It's time to bring those old dance steps into your new life at The Colony. Join the Rockerettes as they begin a new dance year. The Rockerettes have been dancing in The Colony shows for over 20 years. They wear great costumes and use lots of props including hats, umbrellas, canes, boas, etc. A professional choreographer and dance teacher provides steps, formations and fun as we work our way through each new routine. Practices are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings in the Auditorium from 10:30 am to 12 pm. Dance experience is not a requirement, but it certainly helps. No tap shoes? We have a closet full to choose from. Call me at the above number and enjoy all the benefits of new friends, fun and lots of good exercise. Look for us at the upcoming Variety Show. Rockerettes By Rita Nastri, 951-698-8640 Did you know that the Wine Club Board Members have the privilege of putting on outstanding events each and every month for all of us members? But did you also know that they, just like the rest of us, pay to enjoy these events? Our Wine Club is one of the most popular clubs in The Colony. According to Alexis Lichine, "The best way to learn about wine is by drinking." By putting on these outstanding events, the Board offers fabulous opportunities to learn. As they say, "Ask not what wine has done for you, but rather what you're willing to do for wine!" LET THE GOOD TIMES BOIL!!! The Colony Wine Club is presenting an Old- Fashioned Southern Seafood Boil catered by Clambake Catering on Wednesday, Oct. 16, on The Colony Patio. In the tradition of boils, our meal will start with a hot, yummy soup. The main dish and sides will consist of shrimp, sausage, potatoes, clams, corn on the cob, rolls, and coleslaw, with a dessert. The Wine Club will provide one glass of your choice of a red or white wine. Entertainment will be the Ash Street Ramblers to give us some good-old downhome music. Our September event was a special visit to the vineyards in Oregon and Washington. Board member Jeff Hillerich led us through the Pacific Northwest wine region as we tasted six beautiful wines. Dinner, provided by Gourmet Your Way Caterers, complimented these exquisite wines from Washington and Oregon. Everyone agreed that their trip to the Pacific Northwest was unforgettable! According to Ernest Hemingway, "Wine and friends are a great blend." So, blend into the Colony Wine Club with your friends and enjoy some good wine. To join the club, please give Sharon Evans a call at 951- 445-3861. As always, if you are interested in purchasing tickets to any event, please attend one of the ticket sales dates. If you cannot make it to the dates indicated, you can have another club member purchase a ticket for you. Cheers! Wine Club By Valorie Hillerich Wine club members enjoyed a wonderful day of wine tasting at Maurice Car'rie Winery Guests were treated to a vineyard tour by the host. In October, we will be reviewing Spare, written by Prince Harry. It is a deeply honest and intimate memoir of his life, struggles, and his journey towards finding purpose and duty in the Royal family. It sheds light on the pressures of royal life and the importance of mental health. The Book Readers gather in the Meeting Room on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am, which for October is the 9th. We invite you to join us. If you want to read ahead, our November book selection, Master Slave Husband Wife by Ilyon Woo, relates the daring escape from bondage in Georgia to freedom in the North by an enslaved couple disguised as a wealthy planter and his property.
