| THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2024 | 13 We have been asked how we decide what projects to tackle. Since we are advisors to the Board, many of our topics are referred to us by them. Some are brought to our attention by the Landscape staff. And some are brought up by our committee members. Some of the past issues we've addressed have been greenbelt turf renovation to conserve water, researching various turf alternatives for common areas and for front lawns, attending a UC Riverside conference on turf choices, visiting a mulch facility in Oceanside, and collecting data on rabbit damage. We also provide information for the landscape contracts whenever they come up for renewal. At our monthly meeting (the second Monday), the first thing we do is have reports from our landscape contractor, Environmental Concepts, represented by their Account Manager, Assistant Account Manager, and On-site Supervisor. They report what projects have been completed in the past month, and which are currently being addressed or are planned in the next few weeks. Following these reports, the committee members ask questions and voice concerns, which are immediately addressed and written down by the Account Manager. After EC representatives are adjourned, the regular business of the committee begins. Our Board Liaison, Dave Matteucci, gives his report, followed by our Irrigation Sub-Committee leader, Bruce Copeland, who covers the water usage from the previous month and how our usage is going according to the water budget and cost, and other water matters of possible significance. Our Landscape Superintendent, Anthony Reynoso, gives his over- all report on landscape issues, followed by committee discussion on various landscape items. If you aren't aware, Landscape Advisory Committee meetings are open for any Colony resident to observe. From them you can learn how we conduct LAC business and what is involved in our recommendations. If you wish to attend, please let me know prior to the meeting so I can share the procedure with you. Newcomers often wonder why something was or was not done regarding general landscape policy issues. I have sought to cover the historical landscape activities in previous articles. One way to learn answers to your questions is by attending the "Meet With a Director" gathering in the Lounge at 5 pm the second Wednesday of each month. The date is always shown in The Colony News under "Colony News Bits." Usually there is a LAC representative present who can answer your questions. Working and can't make the meeting or observe a LAC meeting? You can call me. LANDSCAPE ADVISORY By Jan Foster, Chair, 951-698-0170 COMMUNICATIONS & TECHNOLOGY By Greg Hill Our Communications & Tech Committee (CATCOM) has been tasked by the Board of Directors to produce a video on the Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC), their role, processes, and support to the community. The video will visually communicate how the EPC is structured, the role of the volunteers, and its various sub-parts. The EPC includes Area Coordinators, Block Captains, and an Emergency Response Team (ERT). All of these volunteers are residents in the Colony. Stay tuned as CATCOM works with the EPC to create a "documentary" of sorts on the inner workings of one of the key committees in The Colony.
