The tournament for August was hampered by the threat of high temperatures and several J&J golfers recuperating from injuries. On tournament day, however, Mother Nature went easy on the eight teams that teed off for the "Pick Your Own Foursome" competition. The two flights played in expected temperatures in what can only be said as having a very breezy addition. The banquet that followed was very lively and hospitable. We had two new players join the J&J family. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1st: 49.693, Joe Cwirka, Marge Anderson, Mike and Leigh Tsumura 2nd: 51.542, Leo Pasco, Peggy Clendenen, Jerry and Pat Caldera 3rd: 53.997, Randy Meyer, Annette Lalicker, Dennis Murphy and Bonnie Hinman. "B" Flight 1st: 48.936, Rich and Bea Brown, Gary Wilson and Jaime Calvert (new player) 2nd: 51.376, Terry Lundquist, Sue Jordan, Dan and Sheryl Beamish 3rd: 51.784, Charles Craven, Pat Byron, David and Pat Bailey Closest to the Pin #5: Women, Annette Lalicker – 15'10" / Men, Mike Tsumura – 18'2" #15: Women, Pat Bailey – 10'9" / Men, Rich Brown – 2'17" #16: Team #1A, Joe Cwirka, Marge Anderson, Mike and Leigh Tsumura – 3'9" The Darwin Award went unclaimed this month. Our next contest is set for Thursday, Oct. 10, and the venue will be the popular, "A & B Format." As with all Jack and Jill events you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya on the links! AUGUST WINNERS 36 | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2024 | Jack & Jill By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 Our Charity Tournament will be coming up soon, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and quite a few of our golfers are excited about playing. It will be a no-frills scramble, and all monies collected will be split between our two charities, Hospice of the Valleys and Michelle's Place. We have donated to these two charities for several years. They do so much, not only for cancer survivors but for whoever needs help from them. I can speak from experience as I have used Hospice for my late partner, and they were amazing with giving us all wonderful care. We will have a 50/50 drawing for some great prizes, and cash and golf balls will be awarded to the golf winners. As always, we will have an open bar with beer and wine and with a lovely luncheon. If you are interested in attending or playing, please contact me or the tournament chair, Anita Hoetker, at 949-842-4873. Cooler weather will be coming soon, but cool or warm, our members have been out there playing. There are a number of different weekly tournaments for both the 18-hole group and the 9 holers. At our September luncheon we were pleased to welcome another new, 18-hole member. We do have a lot of fun, and we have a great group of friendly ladies. I hope you will consider joining us. We hope to see you out on the links soon.
