| THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2024 | 3 From the Desk of Chuck Gordon By the time you read this article, the summer will finally be over. Thank goodness that we are heading full speed into our long-awaited fall season at The Colony. Cooler temperatures during the day and dreamy cool evenings await us. Many of us are looking forward to a break from the triple-digit temperatures that we experienced in September. The colors on many of our trees on the walking trail will be beautiful reds and oranges. Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year at The Colony. If I am fortunate enough to still be on the Board (I am submitting this article in September prior to elections), I will already have begun working on our next fiscal year's budget. We will work very hard to keep our owner assessments as low as possible without compromising the budget. Reflecting on the year, it started out rather difficult for me and my lovely wife CeCe, because we had to put our pug, Pogi, down in January. He was going on 18 years. However, things gradually improved as the year wore on. Even after the nine years we have lived here, we continue to meet new people and make lots of new friends. That's one of the virtues of living in The Colony. It's not short of opportunities to meet people, to socialize and have fun. We have so many things to do, whether it's the Gardening Club, the Wine Club, Karaoke, a drama group, golf, bowling, pickleball, paddle tennis, bocce ball, mahjong, the knitters, the strummers, a host of card games, the Singles group, etc. Some of our streets even have monthly luncheons, and weekly "happy hours" referred to by the Sunshine Committee as "Meet Your Street." There is something for everyone who lives in our community. At times, I feel like we are living in a resort. It is these rich, varied experiences and more that make living here in our community a blessing. One of the things I am most hopeful for is the resolution on the foreclosure of the golf course. Our appellate attorney had previously mentioned that she thought it would be resolved by year end. I am really praying that her prediction will come to fruition. Anyway, may all of you have a blessed year in the closing months of 2024. See you around the campus.
