| THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2024 | 39 We had our monthly pickleball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7, and I must say I am so proud of our players. It was the week of triple- digit heat, and everyone still came out and played. We had lots of fun, lots of food, and lots of great playing. Next month we hope for a little cooler weather and then we're going to be complaining about how cold it is, I'm sure. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came out and I hope to see you all again next month. If you have a desire to play the game, please stop by the courts any morning from 8 to 10 am and you can join in a game or two. We have paddles, balls, and helpers. Whatever you need, we have it. And as always, there are no reservations necessary. So come on down and play the fastest-growing sport in the country. You will be glad you did. See you on the courts. Pickleball By Scott Ross, 310-213-3362 Jane Payne and I are excited about our planned event in October. We will be switching days, from our usual fourth Tuesday of the month to Thursday Oct. 24, when we will be off to another field trip for brunch/lunch and a garden visit, this time to Grand Traditions Estate and Gardens in Fallbrook. Because of our large group, we have guidelines to follow. The Veranda Restaurant will have a pre-set menu for us with brunch items. There is a nice variety of choices, and with appetizers and desserts also on the menu. If you choose to join us, I will send the menu for you to peruse. The charge for brunch is a minimum of $25 per person, plus tax and an 18% gratuity. The $25 includes the $5 garden entry fee for seniors. I have us down for a group of 20-25 guests. When we reach 25, I will keep a waiting list in case someone cancels before the event. We will meet in the Clubhouse parking lot at 10 am and carpool to the Gardens. The return time will be determined. To join us, please email me at goldenmom2finn@gmail.com and include your name, email address and phone number. We hope you can join us. Petal Pushers Garden Club By Gloria Brosky September started off in triple-digit heat, so not very many players came out, I know I did not come out that first week. October should be cooler, and we also will have a time change. We will start at 3 until 5 pm or until it gets too dark to play. As always, we have tables and umbrellas, and water and ice are provided. You may bring a snack to share and your favorite beverage as you join in the fun and camaraderie. No experience is necessary to play, or you're welcome to just come out and watch and socialize with your friends and neighbors and meet some new people. Bocce By Jeanne Bender, 949-295-5412 Escape the heat and join us at ping pong in the air-conditioned Auditorium. It's fun, social, and we have friendly to competitive play (not your grandma's ping pong). If you haven't played in a long time, no problem, we can help you get your game back. All levels welcome. No paddle required. We play Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm. Ping Pong By Lisa Schrader, 714-814-4543
