| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2024 | 53 Our October meeting was successful as our guest speaker, Tanis Polete, a Sun Laker and wife of Veteran Larry Polete, was outstanding. Tanis is an Independent Health Insurance Agent and was kind enough to share a plethora of information with our members. With Medicare and VA Insurance changes, we learned a great deal and the question and answer period was extensive. If there are any questions pertaining to the new rules and regulations, feel free to contact Tanis at (951) 663-2881. The Veterans of Sun Lakes was formed in September, 2023 with a group of eight Veterans. Founders included Bob Schive, USN, who also served as President, with Ron Kington, USA as Vice President/ Secretary. In March 2024, Will Baker, USMC, became Executive Director and soon thereafter, numerous Committees were formed. The Club grew as the word spread that Sun Lakes had an active and vibrant club to serve our community. With the approval of the Master Board, led by Bob Walter, USA and a club member, we were blessed to conduct a Presentation of Colors on June 13, where the f lags from each branch of the service were presented, marched in by Veterans from each branch and then saluted. We thank the Master Board for their support as well as our Information Officer, Doug Emery, who became both Treasurer and Information Manager, allowing us to stay in contact with our members easily and often. The Fourth of July Celebration was hosted by our club this year and, together with Officer Torres of the CHP in Beaumont, we had leadership second to none. We were also fortunate enough to have the JROTC Unit from Beaumont High School carry our banner and, despite excessive heat, managed to complete the journey around Sun Lakes. Great young people and their leader, Msgt. Brackins is setting a positive example for them and all of us. On Nov. 10 our Club will hold our first annual Holiday Season Celebration together with recognition of the 249th Anniversary of our beloved Marine Corps. The event is at the North Clubhouse (contrary to my error from the Oct 1 issue); from 12 to 3 pm, with a buffet by John Russo, USMC, owner of Russo's Italian Kitchen in Banning. Tickets are $22 per person and there are just a few left, so if interested please call. Bob the Baker, USA, will be providing us with specialty cakes that only Bob can create. BYOB excepting we will be providing the champagne for toasts, coffee, water, etc. Patriotic music and guest speakers are planned. We will resume in January, 2025 as usual. Any questions, call Will Baker, USMC, at (951) 946-0412. Veterans Group
