16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2024 | The maintenance yard recently experienced another theft, with the perpetrators following a similar M.O. as the previous break in. However, this time they caused more damage to cameras and remote control equipment. All relevant video footage and statements were provided to Banning Police Department who are actively continuing their investigation. Since the incident, Securitas has directed patrol to increase their focus on all facilities and the maintenance yard during evening and nighttime hours. There was a meeting which included management, Master Board members, Securitas, some Safety Advisory committee members, and Banning Police Department to discuss recommendations for improving surveillance and safety measures at the maintenance yard. Many of these suggestions have already been implemented. Security has responded to several incidents involving unauthorized individuals attempting to gain access into the community. These include people bathing in the front waterfalls and others trying to camp near our perimeter walls. Over the last two weeks, Securitas has documented four removals of those trying to establish encampments. These all have been OUTSIDE of Sun Lakes, but near enough to be of concern. Both patrol and management have made significant efforts to intercept and address these situations promptly, ensuring that potential trespassers are deterred before they even think about entering our community. With Banning PD being short staffed, Securitas is being proactive in removing these people without use of force while maintaining the safety of patrol. There have been some reported break-ins of homes recently with jewelry and cash taken. Please remember to lock your doors and windows. Unfortunately we can't take anything for granted. Be vigilant always, there was a bear sighting recently on the Executive Golf Course. Keep your dogs leashed, keep your garage doors shut, drive defensively, and obey traffic signs. ~ Michael Volz, vmv1950@aol.com Safety Advisory Recreation Advisory FALL CRAFT FAIR If you enjoy shopping for hand-made items, come to the Fall Craft Fair on Nov. 1 and 2 from 9 am to 1 pm in the Ballroom. Our talented residents will be selling all the items they have been tirelessly working on over the past months. Everything from Christmas decorations to jewelry and paintings will be on display. VETERANS DAY WALK Join us on Nov. 9 for the Veterans' Walk beginning at 9:30 am in the Main Clubhouse parking lot. Your $25 registration fee includes a t-shirt and continental breakfast. You may pick up registration forms from the Recreation Department. The registration deadline is Nov. 8. CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING Germany is credited with starting the Christmas-tree tradition during the 16th century when people began bringing trees into their homes and decorating them with candles. The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony began in 1923 when President Calvin Coolidge lit a 48-foot Vermont balsam fir tree in the middle of the Ellipse in Washington D.C. For a spectacular display of tree lights, join us on Dec. 1 at 5 pm in the Main Clubhouse parking lot. Goodies and hot chocolate will be served after the lighting. ADMIN OFFICE Remember, the Administrative Offices are open until 7 pm on Mondays to accommodate working residents. ~ Kathy Hamby, klikes2travel@yahoo.com Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn use to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the Restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with Master Board liaison Beverly Simmons, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Manager Linda Vang to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. We also post pictures of residents on their vacations, or of their beloved pets. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby, and we'll put you on our waiting list. ~ Robin Warner, Chair, robincwarner@yahoo.com Lifestyles Advisory
