The Classic Film Group will be showing You Can't Take It With You, the 1939 Academy Awards Best Picture winner on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and 26 at 6 pm in The Lodge Theater. The son of a snobbish Wall Street banker becomes engaged to a woman from a good- natured but decidedly eccentric family not realizing that his father is trying to force her family from their home for a real estate development. The message is, "Nothing is worth doing if you can't enjoy it, and when it's over, you can't take it with you!" Nevertheless, it is another of Capra's lifesaving, feel-good movies encouraging us to have a little fun. Also showing is the Academy Award winning short Ferdinand the Bull. Ferdinand is a quiet, gentle bull who only wants to stop and smell the flowers. Ferdinand the Bull was Disney's only Oscar winner for Best Short Subject (cartoon) from the 1930s that was not a Silly Symphony. The Wednesday Western Matinee will be John Ford's 1939 film Stagecoach on Nov. 13 at 2 pm in The Lodge Theater. Stagecoach challenged stereotypes and conventions, set new standards for the Western genre, and is considered a paragon of the genre. Its influence can be seen in many Westerns that followed. ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@gmail.com The cinema club has screenings on the second Sunday of each month. We screen films you won't find at the big cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films, and other little gems that don't get wide release. Our screening for this month, on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 6 pm, is e Eternal Memory (Chile 2023, 1 hr. 24 min., English subtitles). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Augusto and Paulina have been together for 25 years. Eight years ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Both fear the day he no longer recognizes her." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability.
