52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2024
This is the perspective of the artist of the month,
Claudette Harsany.
Any type of art is intriguing to me. It may or may not be to
my liking, but I have a deep appreciation for the concept of ideas,
the planning of the composition, and the initiative to express it
all in mixed media. Having had the privilege to visit many great
museums, churches, and galleries of Europe, it opened my mind
and desire to seek out more. My piece being shared was a real
mind bender for me. Rob Kelman, our knowledgeable instructor,
wanted us to get out of our comfort zone. He said, "Start with a
full coat of red paint on your canvas."
"What?" was my reaction. I decided if I wanted to learn and
progress in art, I didn't have to understand, per se, but just go with
it. I was sure the accomplished artists in our class, including Rob,
must have a secret they do! It's not giving up, as each piece is a
learning experience. I painted the canvas red. "Next step please,"
I asked Rob, and then the next step again and again and so forth.
Rob said, "Now go for it, put bark on trunks, work on the leaves,
the path, and the shading." I have so much to learn, but I am
loving it thanks to Rob and the encouragement of my amazing
classmates.
Come and join us. Classes are held on Mondays from 10 am to
12 noon and/or Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. If you have
any questions, call Rob at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman
