| THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2024 | 29 The Colony Cousins welcomes you to our Tuesday, Nov. 12, meeting at 1 pm in the Annex, where Elizabeth Swanay O'Neal will present "Strategies for Brick Wall Busting." Have you been doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results? Then it's time for you to think "outside the box!" This meeting will feature a variety of tips and strategies for thinking creatively about your genealogy research. Elizabeth Swanay O'Neal is a professional genealogist, a writer, and a speaker at family history conferences and events. She is also a small business owner, wife, daughter, volunteer, friend, homeschool educator, and mom to a teenage daughter and two goofy dogs. Since 1987, she has made it her goal to research, preserve, and protect her family's stories. As her family members passed away, they took their stories and memories with them. She knew that she couldn't just let them all be forgotten, so she became the historian, or the "heart," of her family. Her mission is to make the past part of her present, and she would like to help you do the same! Our meeting will start promptly at 1 pm so please plan to sign in at 12:45 pm. For questions, please contact Lennie Martin at 503- 269-9987 or lenniem07@yahoo.com. Our new member drive continues, and we invite you to join us. Dues for 2024 are $25 for an individual and $30 for a family. Contact Greg Griffes at mosesscrolls@gmail.com for a membership form. If you would like copies of the handouts for past presentations, please contact John Murphy at jemurphy77@yahoo.com or 951-764- 2392. Genealogy By Greg Gries, 951-383-9988 HEADS UP, SINGLES! For November, the Singles Dinner is changing date and location. Due to the Veterans Salute being on the second Monday, we changed the Singles Dinner date to a week earlier than usual, to November 4. HOWEVER, we then learned the voting machines will still be in the Auditorium. What to do? We are moving to the Lounge on that evening. This will be a new venue for November only. Our dinner will be a traditional turkey dinner, and our entertainer will be Shalom Sherman. We'll be looking for you! Colony Singles By Jan Foster Colony Chorus By Ken Luekens There have been some big changes for the Colony Chorus. In October, Lorilee Bajema, our long-time director who is in her ninth season with us, began a new job, and while we are happy for her, it has meant adjusting our practice schedule. Instead of Thursday mornings, we are now practicing on Wednesday afternoons, mostly 4 to 6 pm. We are continuing to work on music for our Celtic Christmas Concert, which will feature Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Welsh songs. The concerts will be on Saturday evening, Dec. 7, and Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8. Mark your calendars now. Seating will be cabaret style (tables) and unreserved seats — unless you have reserved seating. Tickets are already on sale from Chorus members or from Katie in the HOA office (not available through the Colony Box office). If you have questions, you can call Carolyn Smith at 909-286-9163. Our last concert was sold out for both days, so don't delay. If you would like a reserved seat, consider becoming a Chorus Patron. As a Patron, you'll enjoy the benefit of a reserved seat near the front. Get in touch with Dee March at 760-271-9002 or Julie Benningfield at 520-975-0224. We would welcome your support. The Chorus truly appreciates our Patrons. Many have supported us for years. We hope to see you at our concert. Keep singing!
