| THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2024 | 31 Our September class painted autumn leaves. We found that it is very encouraging to the beginning artists to have all levels of watercolor artists in the class. Our October class will be holiday cardmaking on Thursday, Oct. 31, and it will be taught by our guest Master Artist, Taka Ritchie. This will be our last class of 2024. We will not be meeting in November or December. Our first class in 2025 will be on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 9 am to 12:30 pm in the Annex. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you in January. Watercolor Classes By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Our November artist is David Gortner. David has lived in The Colony for four years. He is an accomplished watercolor artist who is following in the footsteps of his father. He went to the Academy of Art in Chicago, studied watercolor, and has been painting his entire life. David has won numerous awards, in particular Best of Show at an Art Faire in Silverton, Oregon. He enjoys painting trains, but he also paints seascapes and landscapes. He has been participating in our watercolor class and usually finishes two paintings while most of us just make it through one. He is an inspiration to all of us in the class. His other hobby is playing classics for violin and viola. He is seeking others who enjoy playing stringed instruments in the classics. If you are interested, please call him at 951-269-0572. This is David's third year showing his artwork in our Clubhouse lobby. We are pleased to have him in our circle of Colony artists. Thank you, David, for sharing your beautiful paintings and your special talent with our community. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766
