| THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2024 | 3 From the Desk of Bruce Dalfonso, President As we head into November, we watch the change of seasons. It's the time of year we see leaves fall, temperatures finally cool down, and the days become shorter. Normally, this time every year we have a new Board working to come up to speed. But this year, the residents decided to keep the same Board together. New Board members must learn what each other's strengths are and the best ways to communicate with each other. This part of the learning never ends, but it is not near as steep as it was initially. We will continue to navigate how to best leverage the diverse talents that everyone brings to the table. That is a cornerstone that not only strengthens the Board, but the entire community. Our 18 committees are also impacted. Even with the same Board members, we try to mix up the committee liaisons a bit so that Board members get a better picture of how the community operates. As new Board liaisons are assigned to committees, they must work together to understand how to bring the best value possible to The Colony. This is where so much of the work of The Colony is done and we do all we can to hit the ground running with each committee. As we kick-off the 2024-25 Board year, one of the key projects will be the new Pavilion/Patio area between the Pool and Atrium. As many of you know, the patio cover needs replacement. This is also a great time for the Board to put their long-range planning hats on to see what can be done to enhance the lifestyle of those who enjoy the outdoor events and outside club activities. This brings up a multitude of questions that need to be researched. What can be done to expand the potential usage of this prime outdoor entertainment area? What are the options to make it a desirable gathering area through all four seasons? How can we make sure we meet the needs of residents for the next 15 years? What do we need to do to invest in the future of The Colony and in turn protect/grow the investment each homeowner has made in this community? And of course, to protect that investment we need to be able to do this in a fiscally responsible manner. We will be reaching out to committees, clubs, and staff to help provide guidance on this and many other initiatives over the next year. I believe you have a very strong Board in place to tackle these initiatives. Each member has a passion for this community, a passion to protect each resident's home values, and a passion to enhance each resident's lifestyle. On behalf of the Board, we thank each of you for your continued support. We are all honored to serve.
