November: e Month of Remembrance Leaves grow old, gracefully, bringing such joy in their last lingering days. How vibrant and bright, their nal urry of life. November has arrived. November is the month to celebrate family and friends. It gave birth to one of the oldest of holidays in America, Thanksgiving. Its origin stretches back to 1620 when a group of Protestants left their native England and landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The first winter was very difficult, but by 1661, food was in abundance, and a celebration was in order. Although turkey was not part of the meal, ducks, geese, swans and pigeons were plentiful. Men prepared the meals because the women were ill from the harsh weather. Regardless of the menu, guests were filled with gratitude for all they had and the excitement of this new adventure that offered so much promise. This month our library celebrates another "Afternoon with Authors," featuring Pete McCall who will be discussing his book, Exercise for Health and Longevity. He holds a Masters Degree in Exercise and Health, has written several books and spent a large part of his career educating personal trainers around the world. He believes that successful aging is a process that keeps us free from disease while maintaining high levels of physical and cognitive performance. This is one session you don't want to miss. | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2024 | 13 Library Association NOVEMBER BOOK BUYS A Walk In e Park (Nf ) ......................................Kevin Fedarko Big Love And Warhorse ........................ Do you long for a novel that will raise the hairs on the back of your neck and keep you turning pages deep into the night? Cancel your plans when you start reading e Overnight Guest by the New York Times bestselling author, Heather Gudenkauf. You won't be able to put it down. The novel centers around a crime writer, Wylie Lark, who finds herself snowed in at the isolated farmhouse that she has rented in order to write her new book. It is the perfect retreat except for the fact that she is unaware that two people were murdered there and a girl disappeared without a trace 20 years prior. As the storm worsens, she discovers a small child lying half frozen in her yard. As she attempts to save the child's life, it becomes clear that the farmhouse isn't as isolated as she thought, and someone is looking for her and those she befriended.
