26 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2024 | Rehearsals for the holiday concert continue with the usual amount of hard work and fun. It is such a joy to be singing under the leadership of our Director, Beverly Taylor. She challenges us with her music selections, teaches us some of the refinements of singing like proper breathing posture and pronunciation of some words. Even our warm up that we do prior to singing is an educational experience. And that's what the Choral Society is all about, singing together and having fun and growing in your skills no matter what level of singer you are. It's very satisfying to work on a difficult piece of music, master it and then present it to the Ocean Hills Community at our concert. Last month I said that our performances were greeted with thunderous applause. That's only a dream usually reserved for big named stars and symphony level musicians. Not that we need that amount of acknowledgment, but it sure doesn't hurt our pride in a job well done either. The better the audience reaction, the better the performance. If you would like to be a part our group and share in the experience, please join us. If you do join us now, you won't be able to sing in the concert, but you will be able to sing at rehearsals until Nov. 14. On Nov. 11, we will be participating in the Veterans Day presentation which is always a very moving experience especially if you are a veteran. Dec. 8 is the Holiday Concert that we are working towards that will be in Abravanel Hall at 2 pm. If you join now, you can still help with the myriads of things that are necessary to operate the Chorale and to put on the concert. Our rehearsals are on Thursdays from 10:15 am until 12 pm. I sure hope you consider joining us. Come to a rehearsal and see if it is for you. New singers and volunteers to help with the Choral Society on and off stage are always welcome. Written by Jack Shabel Choral Society Shorter days, longer nights, holidays just around the corner. Thoughts of small special projects for friends and loved ones are running around in my head… I need to get going if I'm going to get them done in time! Before we slow down our activities for the holidays, remember that a lot is still going on this month: Quilting support is happening every Friday morning from 9 to 11:30 am in the Sewing Room; our Kneedlers (knitters) and Hookers (crocheters) gather every Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 pm; and on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, knitters, crocheters and sewers get together for "Sew & Chats." All these gatherings are loosely structured and help to keep us in touch. Please feel free to join any or all of them! Our FREE TO MEMBERS' classes in November are easy and informative! On Sat., Nov. 2, we will be making double-sided Christmas tree napkins. The following Saturday, the 9th, there will be a class in felting. If you are interested in these, please sign up on the clipboards located in Sewing, Etc. Room. If supplies for the classes are needed, there will be a list available there also. All classes are held in that same room from 9:30 am to noon. To allow our members to have more free time during the holidays, please remember that there are no classes and no general meetings in December. Don't forget about our "rideshare" service to meetings and workshops that are held in our Clubhouse. If you are interested in attending and have no transportation, please call MaryLu Belisle (952)454-1931. We have a list of volunteers who will be happy to get you to and from the event. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call MaryLu Belisle (952) 454-1931 for more information. Also, please visit our website http://ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ohccsewing All are welcome to join us. Dues are $7 per year. Our meetings are held at 9:30 am in the morning on the first Thursday of each month… we look forward to seeing you! Written by Sharon Philippe Sewing Etc.
