| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2024 | 39 If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase flexibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. The benefits of Tai Chi may include: decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved flexibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC offers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and Thursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes. For more information, please contact Mary Ross at (760) 295-9979 or mk1ross@cox.net. Tai Chi Golf Club Well, our golf season is winding down, only two more of our favorite tournaments to go before the end of the year. Our last Guys and Dolls event takes place on Nov. 2, and we conclude our Touring Amateur tourneys at St. Marks Executive on Nov. 18. Where do the time and the golf balls f ly?! On Sept. 16 Guys and Dolls, the two Closest to the Pin winners of $20 were Aletha Rauten Kranz and Paul Sullivan. And at the St. Marks Ex course, Closest to the Pin hot shots were Allison Vincent and Mike Stern. Magic Circle pros were Sandy Geisser, Tracy Glass, Rich Halkyard and Natalie Sentz. Congratulations to these folks and all the other winners of the two tournaments. We can't forget the Chip In winners of the Niners September outings: Vicky Brady, Karen Barnes, Suzanne Patten, and Jirina Svoboda. Well, done! Finally, here's a shout out to Bernie Alfonso (below left), the tireless and dedicated starter of the women's Wednesday tourneys. Included is a photo of Bernie sending out a handful of happy golfers (below right), ready to hit the links. Happy holidays everyone! Written by Jim Mulvey We did it! Our membership hit 285 as of Sept. 30 and we have had a record 100 sails go out with October and November as yet uncounted. Wow! With the Great Gatsby Gala dinner dance on Nov. 15 coming up fast it would not be surprising to see the OHCC Sailing Club's membership hit 300 and the number of sails could reach 115. Yay! If you haven't purchased your Gala tickets, you may do so at the Clubhouse front desk. There are sign-up sheets. Just look for a table with open seats available or, space permitting, start a new table. Finally, just a reminder of the Club's annual election of officers on Election Day, Nov. 5. You should have received an eblast with the room, time and other pertinent information. Fair winds and following seas to all our members and our OHCC neighbors.
