| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2024 | 7 Thanksgiving Day is quickly approaching, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all our SERT Club members for your continuing support. SERT's goal is to help you be better prepared for a medical emergency or disaster. We also wish to express our appreciation and thanks to many other social clubs and individual residents who have made monetary donations for the purchase this year of additional emergency equipment and supplies to support SERT. SERT membership in 2025 will increase to $12/year. Join or renew now at our existing membership fee of $10! SERT continues to offer the American Red Cross blended learning class for Adult First Aid/CPR/AED on the second Wednesday of each month in the Clubhouse. All OHCC residents may attend. You must register for this class in advance at arc.ohccsert@gmail.com. For more information, visit the SERT Club website at https://www. ohccsert.com/red-cross-courses. During the October SERT Annual Club meeting you re-elected me as President, John Slayton – Vice President, Rosemary Bray as Secretary, Sandy Reinhardt as Treasurer, and the Board appointed Jill Lemons as the Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor Director. We are looking for additional Emergency Response Team (ERT) members. ERT members serve as OHCC's "first responders" until State, County, and City emergency personnel can arrive. The Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor program continues to evolve with about 50 members serving as Safety Coordinators. This past year we learned that residents preferred informal events with neighbors on their street, so they can directly connect with their neighbors and form a "buddy system" to share information that may be critical in an emergency. If you can host a street gathering, please contact Annie Gandomi at sc.ohccsert@gmail.com. The Family Care Givers program continues to grow in popularity. It is amazing how quickly a loved one's health can diminish and their partner or family member are thrown into the role of "care giver" for which they are usually unprepared. This group shares stories and experiences and offers helpful support. They meet the third Thursday of every month in the Clubhouse from 7 to 8:30 pm. The group is open to all SERT members. All OHCC residents are welcome to attend one meeting as a guest. Helping Hands partnered with SERT this year. Helping Hands provides used medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, and other items) for short term use. For information they can be contacted at hh.ohccsert@gmail.com. SERT is grateful for YOUR support! Thank you! Please stay safe out there! SERT anks You By Tom Porter, President Summer has departed, and now we welcome fall! For some, this marks the beginning of sweater weather. Regarding safety, a resident informed me this month that we all need to be careful while backing out of our driveways. She and a friend were walking and almost got hit because it seemed the driver didn't notice them. As we continue to make leaps and bounds with technology, it's important to remember that even with these wonderful devices, we must remain aware of our surroundings. Community Patrol has received calls about loose pets within the community. Even if you feel safe in your location, the rules still require that pets be leashed when they're off your property. Please ensure your animal is leashed when out in the community. If you prefer to let them roam behind your gates, please ensure that the area is secure. We don't want them to escape and get lost or injured. Thank you, OHCC residents, for your vital role in our community. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the rules. We are committed to serving you and the community; your feedback is invaluable. If you have any concerns or suggestions that you would like to see addressed in a future issue of Living Magazine, we encourage you to share them. Please feel free to contact me via email or phone. My office at the front gate is always open for Ocean Hills Country Club residents. ~ Tony Duong, Account Manager, Securitas Security Services, (760) 766-1458, cell (760) 505-2146, Tony.Duong@securitasinc.com Community Patrol Services
