Happy Thanksgiving to all! The Clubhouse is getting ready for the holidays this month. The decorations are coming out of storage, trees are ordered, menorahs purchased, and the outdoor lights are to be installed in various locations to include the Front and Back Gates. Hannukah and Christmas are happening at the same time this year, which makes for a more festive time in the Clubhouse. The hope is to have it all completely decorated by Dec. 2, just in time for our holiday parties to begin. The reservation process for 2025 continues. We are accepting forms from our special interest groups. This includes card groups, and this is a significant number. Each year we ask for the contact person to set up their reservation with the Event Coordinator's office. In December, the private room rentals will be our last group to input. Get out to vote! The upcoming General Election will be Tues., Nov. 5. The Clubhouse will not be a public polling place, as it was years ago. Please check the Registrar of Voters website for more information and the nearest precincts. Veterans Day Program is always an outstanding and memorable occasion. We look forward to Rancho Buena Vista Band with Band Director, Eric Weirather, coming to perform. The Village Vets Club has been planning the program for months and it is easy to remember Nov. 11 at 11 am in Abravanel Hall. Wear your red, white, and blue! Refreshments follow on the Palm Court. The Annual Woodchuck Toy Drive is here starting Nov. 9 through the 23rd, in the Clubhouse. Toys, gift cards and checks are all accepted for the Camp Pendleton families. It is a sight to see so come on in to the Clubhouse and drop off a toy and check it out. Please plan to participate in our Holiday Golf Cart Parade on Dec. 16. Please register at the Front Desk. There will be refreshments for all parade participants in the Clubhouse. The map of the route will be in December's edition and online. The Clubhouse closes at 5 pm on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. On Friday the 29th the closing time will be 11 pm. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day the Clubhouse closes at 5 pm. On New Year's Eve the Clubhouse closes at 5 pm, the holiday party will begin at 6 pm. We are making a change this year and starting earlier, with a 9 o'clock east coast toast. Tickets go on sale for $70 per person this month. On New Year's Day the Clubhouse will be open until 11 pm. Wishing OHCC a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving holiday. Invite a friend over for dinner. Enjoy all the fixings and come to the Clubhouse to make yourself feel better by working out. A new survey found that 80 percent of men claim they help cook Thanksgiving dinner. Which makes sense when you hear them consider saying 'that smells good' to be helping." ~ Jimmy Fallon 18 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2024 | Recreation News By Christy Bessey
