32 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2024 | Strength training is incredibly beneficial for women over 60. It helps maintain muscle mass, bone density, balance, and overall well- being. Here's what you need to know: Can a Woman Build Muscle Aer 60? Absolutely! While age- related muscle loss (sarcopenia) is real, it's not irreversible. Strength training can help you gain muscle mass even in your golden years. The right combination of strength training and holistic health can make a significant difference. Why Strength Training is Important for Older Adults: Maintain Bone Density: Women are susceptible to bone loss after age 30. Strength training exposes your bones to mechanical load, helping maintain or increase bone mass and density. SASY is strength training only. There are 15 exercises for arms, legs and torso. The class is free. We meet in The Lodge Ballroom at 8:30 am every Tuesday and Thursday. We are a fun social group. If you have questions regarding this class, please call Jeanne Lincoln (765-7112) or Char Weakley (926-2599). Strong Adults Stay Young (SASY) BALANCE & STABILITY: This chair-based class is designed to improve balance and stability in everyday life. These exercises are great for fall prevention. We will focus on the muscles used for bending, reaching, lifting, leaning, and getting back up. There will be short intervals of balance and coordination exercises. We will also focus on range of motion, flexibility, and deep stretching. Participants will work and their own pace and comfort level 1-2-3-pound weights will be optional. CARDIO CIRCUIT: This class is taught by our certified instructor and will offer cardio conditioning and functional strengthening. The class consists of light cardio conditioning, strength circuits with light weights (two to five pounds), balance drills, and followed up with a soothing stretch. Chair options are given. YOGA BALANCE: This class will focus on balance, stability, core strength, and deep stretching. You will flow through a variety of poses led by our certified instructor. She will guide you through the practice offering modifications and plenty of chair options. ZUMBA GOLD: This is a low impact, high energy dance fitness class. It consists of easy-to-follow dance routines mixed with low impact exercises. This class will get your heart rate up. You can freestyle or modify as needed, just enjoy the music, and keep moving. There will be a fun variety of music and dances. Come dance to salsa, merengue, cumbia, cha-cha, oldies, country, pop, and more. Burn tons of calories and have fun doing it. All the aforementioned classes are covered by Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit, Active and Fit, Renew Active, and Peer Fit. Contact your insurance company to see if they offer any of these fitness benefits. You can purchase a punch card for $30 for 10 classes or pay just $3 per class. Exercise with a Certified Fitness Instructor For several months, I have told you about the bocce players who helped make the year of 2024 a fun and competitive season. For the next three months, I need to inform you that the next season for 2025 is fast approaching us here at Four Seasons and that means it will be sign up for all the teams that want to play again for the new bocce season, and for those who have never played but want to join and learn more about bocce. Bocce is recognized all through the world and not just a sport played here in America. We keep it simple so that there are not too many rules that will confuse you but at the same time can be fair to all the players, and most of all, you will enjoy playing and meeting all players new and experienced. Since this is early and we do not have an exact day and time, and can tell you that bocce will repeat last year's schedule. We will confirm a particular day and time with Tracie Rogers as we get close to the end of the year. So, keep early February, first or second Sunday of that month for the sign up day. Why begin to talk about sign up this early? The question is simple, our residents are very busy people that are involved in many things and it is easy to forget about certain dates. So, I will continue to remind our residents so that you will not miss the date. Bocce is Fun: Ross Brunetto, Bocce Chairperson, (951) 926-8295 Bocce Billiards Club If you like the game of pool and would like to meet and play like-minded players, please join us in the Billiards Room on Tuesdays from 9 am to 12 noon. The club participates with the Hemet Valley Pool Club; we host and travel to other 55+ communities and have tournaments with other teams. The game of choice is 1-15, it is a form of 8 Ball and it is a lot of fun. We are also interested in enlisting a few more players for our club. If this interests you, please come on out and join us for a morning of billiards. ~ Art Martel, Team Captain, (909) 973-8208
