8 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2024 | Library Committee Hello from your Four Seasons Library Committee volunteers! We are 11 residents who regularly visit the Library and help to keep it organized and operating efficiently. We work in the computer room, too, dealing with the puzzles — 300 to 1,000 pieces. Currently, the fall, winter, and holiday puzzles have been stocked on the shelves. When puzzles are being returned or donated, they should be placed in the special return boxes in both the Library and the computer room. We try very hard to only accept and display complete puzzles. If you discover a puzzle with missing pieces, either don't return it or write on the box that pieces are missing. We get rid of incomplete puzzles by recycling them or giving them to residents who ask for them for specific reasons. The Library has had lots of books donated lately. Some we can add to our collections of hard and soft cover books; others are too old (copyright dated before 2015 for hardcover fiction or 2020 for paperbacks), in poor condition, or not subjects that we currently carry. We take these books to other locations that can use or sell them. The hardcover fiction books have now expanded to the lower center shelves in the left-hand bookcases. Residents are enjoying books in the new cases behind the couch. We're slowly filling the revolving bookcases at either end of the paperbacks section on the right side of the Library. See the labels on the bookcases identifying what's being displayed. Soon the Library will be decorated for the upcoming holidays. It's difficult to face the fact that 2024 is winding down. It seems like just yesterday that 2024 was the exciting new year ahead; now it's going to be 2025! When you are enjoying your Thanksgiving dinner in a couple of weeks, the Library committee hopes you will be thankful for your Library; we certainly are! We're also thankful for all the Four Seasons residents who support us and continue to donate books, puzzles, and magazines that meet the criteria for being available in the Library. While we wish we had unlimited space, that is not the reality of the facility. Always remember, however, that this is YOUR Library and share suggestions in the Library suggestion box for the committee's consideration. Finally, we hope to be featuring another Resident Author's Talk soon. Now enjoy every moment of this holiday season! ~ Betty Crase As I write this article for the November Herald, the high temperature is forecast as 106 degrees. When you read this in November, hopefully the weather has moderated away from the heat of summer and early fall. Happy Thanksgiving! Each article that is written by a member will mention how the Facilities Committee is focused on keeping our community in great shape. That is our mission and I believe it shows in the overall appearance of where we live. I don't think there is a better maintained community in Southern California. As a committee member, I enjoy "getting behind the curtain" in the monthly inspections to see what is working well and what needs attention. I also wish to compliment the members of the committee that go above and beyond and volunteer to do special projects. Such as inspecting all of the round tables used in the Ballroom to determine if the edges have become sharp and present a safety hazard. This was done recently and the replacements have already been received. Two members designed a better and safer layout for the equipment in the fitness center. In coming up with a new layout, space was created (in case of emergency) for EMT's to be able to get a gurney into the room from the rear door. There are many activities performed by the committee that go unnoticed. I am inspired by the willingness of this committee's members who volunteer when asked. If you are interested in serving on the Facilities Committee, applications are available at The Lodge front desk. ~ Paul Barr, Co- Chair-Facilities Committee Facilities Committee
