| THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2024 | 27 Taka Ritchie was our guest instructor for the last Watercolor class of 2024. This is the second year in a row that Taka has taught our card making class. It was a big success and everyone learned at least three new techniques to make their own cards in the future. Thank you, Taka, for instructing our last class. Everyone was very happy with what they had painted. Beginners and intermediates, along with advanced painters, are welcome to join our class. You can either work on something of your choice or the project of the day. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I am looking forward to seeing all of you on Jan. 30, 2025. Happy Holidays! Watercolor Classes By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Our artist for December is Joan Tobias. Joan graduated from UCLA and spent her entire career as an educator. Upon her retirement, she moved to The Colony in its infancy and, being an original homeowner, she became very active in our community. Joan chose to paint in acrylics and watercolor and was a member of Gem of the Valley Art Association for many years. She was an award-winning artist, and she was active in our Watercolor class. Apart from painting, she was a world traveler and a long-time member of the Temecula Valley Garden Club. She loved singing and was active in our chorus, and she was an avid mah-jongg player. She loved and enjoyed Colony activities. We are presenting a final showing of Joan's award-winning artwork and a self-portrait in the Clubhouse Lobby. She passed away on Oct. 1, 2024. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her many friends and fellow artists. Farewell, Joan. You will be greatly missed. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 It has finally cooled off from summer and the Thursday Bocce group is still going strong. We will play from 2 to 4 pm as it's getting darker earlier. There are tables, chairs and umbrellas, and water and ice are always provided. Bring a snack to share and your favorite beverage and join in the fun and camaraderie. No experience is needed to play. Everyone is welcome to come play or just sit, watch and socialize with your friends, neighbors and maybe meet some new people. Bocce By Jeanne Bender, 949-295-5412
