Calling all grandparents. Great grandparents, you, too! Santa Claus is coming to town. Well, not to town, but to the Lanai! On Sat., Dec. 7, from 11 am to 2 pm, jolly old St. Nick will be on hand to pose for photos with grandkids of our residents and hand out goodies. Be sure to bring your camera to capture those fond memories. Our haunted house-themed party in October turned out to be a member favorite and the pajama party in November was not far behind. As we wind down the year, looking back, most dances were a sellout. We enjoyed several theme dances – St. Patrick's Day, hot summer nights, Halloween and pajama party. Toward the end of summer, the Lanai was finished, and members were able to gather there and dance on the new adjacent parquet floor. Music was provided by DJs and our favorite bands, including Cool Rush, Smokin' Guns, Cadillac Fringe with Clay Colton and the Buckleys. Many will be back next year with new ones. If you have listened to a band you like, please let us know so we can consider it for a future party. The past year's success would not have been possible without the help of the party hosts. They are Andrea Anderson, Julie Baumer, Susan Brainin-Martin, Karen Hamm, Jeri Laughlin, Janet Kwal, Janet Mrvos, Lorraine Novellino, Pele Pyle, Cecilia Quinn, Karla Sando, Laura Urban, and Donna Walters. They put together committees, planned themes, arranged tables and room decorations, and staffed the sign-in tables. These volunteers were honored at a luncheon hosted by the Board earlier this month. If you have been enjoying all the benefits of being a Doo Wop and Disco Club member, please consider giving back by volunteering to be a party host. Janet Mrvos will give interested persons tips on how to be a host at a tutorial in February. Call her if you are interested. In addition to holding dances this year, the Club staged a party open to all residents, paying tribute to the 40th anniversary of OHCC, will sponsor the previously mentioned "Meet Santa" event in the Lanai, participated in the Camp Pendleton diaper drive, and at the pajama party, collected pajamas for the less fortunate. So, Doo Wop is not just about dancing; we give back in many ways. In October, we held our annual election meeting. Thanks to all the volunteers who made it possible, including Tony Sando, Chair of the Nominating Committee. The current Board of Directors has been elected to serve another one-year term. Officers and their positions for 2025 are Tom Harwood, President; Andrea Anderson, Vice President; Lorraine Novellino, Treasurer; Julie Baumer, Secretary; and Janet Mrvos, Events Coordinator. Doo Wop is dark this month and January, but in February, we will be ready to go for another fun year of dance parties. Be sure to put Jan. 11 on your calendars for Do Dues Day. See you there and on the dance floor next year. Written by Tom Harwood | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2024 | 15 Doo Wop & Disco Dance
