| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2024 | 33 Woodchucks We Woodchucks are heading to our burrows for our long winter's nap. We worked hard this year along with our fellow Sewing, Chorale, Vets, and Art clubs to create our annual Toy Drive for the children of Camp Pendleton. Thanks to all in our community for another successful event and your continued support serving those who so bravely serve us. It is a well-known fact that many of our toy creations and community projects come from the dreams of our "chuckians." Woodchucks (aka Groundhogs) sleep a lot, but their dreams will not be wasted. Beyond the toys, some of our past brainstorms include the creation of the Bocce Ball Scoop-Matic. The idea was to save the backs of the bocce players as they pick up their ball. A design evolved that included a scrap piece of plywood, some PVC pipe and, best of all, hardware repurposed from a small, donated bed that worked perfectly for putting it all together. From dreams come brilliant ideas. Another example was our project for the Clubhouse renovation project. The grand old front doors were wearing out and the plan was to replace them with more welcoming wrought iron and glass doors. Our hope was to save some of the craftsmanship and wood from the old hand-built doors. The dream became the solution; we were able to repurpose the old door and build a Romeo & Juliette balcony for our Clubhouse Grand Galleria. A note to our readers: some of our dreams have been proceeded by large dinners or an extra glass of wine… but it's all good. Please consider joining us as we make sawdust and dreams come true. Club membership is required to use our clean, well-appointed shop and membership forms may be picked up at the front desk in the Clubhouse. Written by Larry See Happy Holidays to everyone! We hope you will celebrate with friends and family. We are thrilled to announce that the Travel Club will continue in 2025 with our new President Adele Siesel and Director Jeannine Ferrari! We thank them for stepping up to save our wonderful club. Adele has been madly creating a list of possible trips for next year. We hope you will join us in exploring the Southern California Area. Here are our upcoming events: Dec. 17 Dinner and a night of touring four incredible neighborhoods around San Diego featuring outstanding Holiday Lights and other decorations. This is sold out. Jan. 14, 6 pm is our kick o for 2025. It will include mini- croissant sandwiches, chips, soda and ice cream bars followed by a presentation from Will Reese from AFC Vacations. The cost is $5, which must be paid by Jan. 2, 2025. This is open to 2024 and 2025 members, or you may pay the $10 dues at the event. Feb. 19 - Save the Date for a Wild Adventure. Details to follow. Frequently people on a trip need to cancel. Many people on our wait lists actually have had the opportunity to go on our trips. To be placed on the waitlist or to register for any of our trips, leave a check made out to the OH Travel Club, in the Travel Club envelope at the Clubhouse front desk. Add $5 to the price if you are not a member of the Club. You will receive an email confirming your registration. We certainly hope you will join us on one of our trips!
