As this issue of OHCC Living arrives, you will have just finished celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday and be anticipating the various religious and traditional observances coming close behind. Hopefully, your harvest holiday was a healthy one filled with time with family and friends. (It can be difficult to make these reports timely given the lead time for publication. Looking toward the disruption of holidays at the end of November, it was necessary to submit material nearly three weeks before distribution.) If you are reading this report, it means that the world did not come to a sudden end following the Presidential election as had been warned by both major parties. With the perspective of history, we know that the demise of the USA has been forecast multiple times prior to an election, but those forecasts have always proven to be wrong. As Mark Twain might have put it, "Rumors of the death of the USA have been greatly exaggerated." OHCC fared well despite the cultural gulf; there were no reports of vandalism to political signs, shouting matches, fisticuffs or other unpleasantries, unlike the 2020 election. And we can be justly proud of our civic participation. Ocean Hills Country Club is split into two precincts, one exclusively OHCC and one including the area around the Mariner's Church. The latter had an 90 percent voter turnout, and the exclusively OHCC precinct had about 92 percent. For precincts with more than 1,000 registered voters, those participation rates are #1 and #2 in San Diego County. Congratulations to the citizenship of our neighborhood! We had anticipated that construction would have been completed on the aluminum replacement patio cover for the casa by this time. However, we hit a snag that was a complete surprise: the casa is built directly over a City of Oceanside stormwater drain easement! After some investigation with the City, we have confirmed that the casa building was properly permitted, meaning that construction on that site was approved. That leaves a mystery as to how the issue was resolved at the time, and we are still working on it at this writing. We have been reassured that we will not have to tear the casa down, and we have a tentative plan to complete the patio cover installation. With a little luck, by the time you read this, construction will be underway. We are anticipating approval of a second turf panel for substantial rebates which will cover the cost of removal and relandscaping. In addition, we have completed the first treatment of the area between Lorca Way and Corinthia Way, and you can see that it has been effective when you drive or walk by. To remind everyone, state law will ban the watering of decorative grass in the future.
