| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2024 | 43 For many years (decades?), the Swim & Wellness Club has offered free swimming lessons to the community. Will 2025 be the year that you learn to swim? We have several experienced instructors who volunteer their time and offer expert guidance. From gathering the courage to put your face in the water, to perfecting your strokes or learning a flip turn, our patient instructors will proceed at whatever pace is right for you. Contact coordinators Ken Krueger at k2krueger@yahoo.com or Robin Ryan at robinryan.a@gmail.com. They will assess your needs and match you with the right teacher. Take advantage of this opportunity! It's FREE for Swim & Wellness Club members. Thinking of joining S & W? You can join now by dropping off a check for $10 at the Clubhouse desk. This will secure your membership for all of 2025. Or look for our table on Do Dues Day, Sat., Jan. 11 from 10 am to 2 pm. Club Board members will be on hand to welcome you and answer any questions you might have. Mark, your calendars for our first meeting of 2025. We will meet on Wed., Jan. 22 at 1:30 pm in Abravanel Hall. Stay tuned for information about the wellness speaker who will be with us that day. You may have noticed some vintage photos of club members in recent articles. Do you have a swim-related photo from your past? We have a project in the works and would like to feature as many members as possible. Take a screenshot of your pic and either email or text it to Sara Stewart (I'm in the directory). Member Spotlight: Club member Teresa Deutman calls our pool "the healing waters of OHCC" and you'll find her there almost every day. That, and the beautiful golf course, were the main reasons for the move here 12 years ago. Teresa grew up in Santa Barbara as the youngest in a family of six kids. Her childhood revolved around the water - pools, beaches and lakes. Summers were spent in Montana, diving off of wooden rafts and swimming in cool lake waters. Teresa earned a Management/Finance degree from SDSU. She swam in college, was a runner and did many triathlons. Her career was almost 40 years of managing multiple Pier 1 locations. She and husband Mark have been married for 24 years and have a large and close extended family of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. They spend lots of time on the golf course, are active Golf Club members and Teresa has bragging rights to 14 holes-in-one. Her swimming goal is to someday do a flip turn again!
