Four Seasons Singers Four Seasons Singers rehearse every Monday. We are getting ready for the Holiday Show, the first weekend in December. We will be singing some beloved carols and some new holiday music. If you would like to join the Singers, would like to be included in my email list, or if you have questions about the Four Seasons Singers, call (951) 797-3466 or email me at bawasco@dc.rr.com. ~ Barbara Wasco The holidays are upon us and the Four Seasons Opera Club will celebrate the season twice. First, on Dec. 13 at 6 pm, we will show Amahl and the Night Visitors. Amahl became a holiday tradition (now sadly discontinued) on Christmas Eve 1951 as a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation of live opera. It is a short, one-act opera composed by Gian Carlo Menotti. It is a story set just days before 1 A.D. of a crippled boy who receives a visit from the three Kings, who are seeking lodging for the night. In the morning the Kings prepare to continue their journey and Amahl wishes to offer a gift to the Christ child, but they are very poor. The only possession he has is his crutch. As he hands the crutch over his crippled leg is miraculously healed. The second Christmas presentation is the grand tradition of The Nutcracker ballet which began in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia, with choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov and music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. We will present a recent Royal Opera Ballet production on Dec. 20 at 6 pm in our Lodge Theater. Please RSVP to reserve a seat as the theatre has only 23 seats. Our presentation of the Royal Ballet's 2018 production will be preceded by a warm-up act of the Dragony Ballet choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton and performed by the luminous Moira Shearer. In January, the Opera Club will celebrate its first anniversary with the presentation of one of the few operas by a female composer – Kaija Saariaho's L'Amour de Loin. This relatively new work premiered in her adopted Paris in 2001 and at the Met in New York in 2016. To prepare for and learn more about these and/or all of our presentations, please visit the Four Seasons Opera website at fsbopera.org. ~ Harvey Toyama, yukito@yukito.net, (951) 524- 3765 42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2024 Opera Club Classical Music Club We are classical music lovers with an interest in sharing our love of, knowledge about, and interest in classical music.
