12 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2024 Continued on next page By Regina Farmer Growing up in beautiful San Diego, California, I am the youngest of three children and as a result, spoiled accordingly. The daughter of a builder and the sister of an engineer and interior designer, one would think I would follow suit, but I longed for something more. Yearning for an intriguing career and the big city life, I moved at age 30 from Pacific Beach California to the bright lights of Los Angeles. I joined NBC Cable Vision as VP of Marketing and Communications. I traveled on behalf of NBC between the Los Angeles and New York offices; it was the ultimate frequent flyer job! After 10 years of being strapped into an airplane seat, I moved from LA to Simi Valley, California, after accepting a position at the Los Angeles News Group as Corporate Director of Consumer Relations. In this role, I wore a number of hats, reporting directly to the Publisher; every day was an adventure, to say the least. Once again commuting but this time via the LA highways traveling between nine newspapers. Considering myself as the ultimate professional; achieving success was my priority. I loved my career collaborating with dignitaries, celebrities, and political figures, as well as publishers and editors. I have a bag full of delightful stories about several famous people. My favorites are Suzanne Somers, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Simmons, and Nancy Reagan. I traveled with the NBC Triple Cast crew along with who was then Bruce Jenner, now Kaitlyn, and O.J. Simpson. I was never starstruck until I met baseball icon Steve Garvey. I almost fainted when I met Cardinal Roger Mahoney after stepping on his cassock and nearly tripping him. The wind up and pitch; you should ask me about it sometime! By the way, "Wind up and pitch" is one of my favorite sayings, a reminder to seize opportunities and face challenges head-on. I loved working at the newspaper. It was demanding work, but it paid off, and anyone who has ever worked in the publishing industry will say the ink runs through our veins. In 2015, I retired and moved from my home in Simi Valley of more than 25 years to Sun Lakes to be closer to my big sister and my big brother, who at the time lived in Four Seasons Beaumont. Shortly after moving to Sun Lakes, I lost my sister and sold my home to buy a house in Four Seasons in 2016. I love the beauty of Four Seasons and all it has to offer, along with the people. I have never felt such wonderful camaraderie in a community. I volunteer my time and energy in this environment, hoping my background and expertise might help. My family and close friends mean the world to me. My brother, sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews live in San Diego and Ventura counties. Until recently, I was a proud dog mom of two beautiful Maltese dogs, Gucci, and Zoey; they were 17 years old when they passed away within six weeks of each other. Because I was so career- minded, being married never really occurred to me as something I wanted to do. Although I have incredible men in my life, I always said no to a ring on my left hand. After retiring, I became a part-time VP of Marketing for my best friend Sally, an award-winning author. Between this and volunteering on committees, it keeps me remarkably busy. In my spare time, I love to go antiquing, reading, going to the gym, and enjoying this beautiful community. I plan to start traveling soon with a trip to my hometown San Diego in December. I also see a cruise in my crystal ball! Being the chairperson of the Facilities Committee is an honor and a privilege. In this role, I enjoy working with the facilities members ensuring each meeting is planned out effectively and efficiently to maximize the allotted monthly meeting times.
