FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2024 61 Tennis Club You're receiving the December issue of the Breeze right after Thanksgiving, so you may actually be asleep and not reading this. If you are awake, why are you bothering reading this; it's mostly old news. For example, the Tennis Club's most recent event was our pre-Halloween Play Day held in October. In addition to our two hours of actually playing tennis, we had Cauldron Chances, also known as Pot Luck, once again organized by Activities Coordinator Lou Stokes. When she asked if we would give her a hand, we did. In November, many of the Tennis Club members participated in United States Tennis Association (USTA) league matches against clubs in the Coachella Valley. The Men's 3.5 2024 SCTA So. Cal Doubles League is for teams comprised of doubles teams whose players do not have USTA ratings higher than 3.5. That team includes Captain Chuck Beckman, Co-captain Larry Martin, Tito Calderon, Howard Levine, Brian Flowers, Larry Zimmerman, Richard Rojko, Steve Clark, and Steve Hovey. The Coachella Valley clubs are Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Rancho La Quinta Country Club, Palm Springs Tennis Club, and Sun City Shadow Hills. The other League is the 6.5 2024 CV Fall Combo Doubles league with Mission Hills Country Club, Palm Springs Tennis Club, and FSB Tennis Club. Some players are on both teams, but the players who are only on the 6.5 team are Randy Haemmerle, Darrell Imoe, Paul Ko, and Alex Castanon. It's fun to visit the other clubs and to host them here. Mike Olson is managing our recycling project, so please look for emails regarding collection days for the empty plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and wine bottles. Leave your separated bags at Mike's house on the designated days. Save the Date: The Annual Meeting and Dinner is planned for Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at The Courts Multipurpose Room, subject to HOA approval of the date and location. This will put us back on the traditional cycle of starting the new membership year with the start of the calendar year. Playdays will continue to be scheduled for the last Saturday of each month – sign-ups at 8:30 am and play beginning at 9 am, and tennis drills and coaching will occur beginning at 9 am on the other Saturdays. Everyone is welcome. Morning and evening tennis sign-ups are available on the website: https://sites.google.com/ view/tennis-fourseasons/home. ~ Steve Hovey (951) 712-5319, sahovey47@hotmail.com Rich R. reaches for the serve Larry Z. and Tito C. ready for the serve e Hand for Lou Stokes
