| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2024 | 17 Yes, we live in a gated community. Yes, we have an on premises security company. No, we cannot take safety and security for granted. Every community, here and everywhere, is vulnerable to security breaches, regardless of how tight security is. Recently, Sun Lakes District 1 experienced a break in at a resident's home, resulting in theft of high value items. The suspect was seen by neighbors attempting to access multiple homes in the area. It appears the suspect gained access through the golf course along Sun Lakes Blvd. where visibility of the perimeter fence and wall is limited. Banning PD was notified and arrived 20 minutes after the call was made. Given the limitations in police response time, it is highly advised for residents to implement and install security measures to thwart any possible break-ins. This includes installing locks on sliding doors and windows and ensuring all entry points are secured when leaving your home. Related to this, Sun Lakes has seen a noticeable rise in the presence of homeless, i.e. "un-housed" individuals in the surrounding areas, including near the Albertsons shopping center, also known as Sun Lakes Village. This trend has become more apparent over the past several months with increased activity near intersections and areas that lack camera coverage. Securitas has been very proactive in inhibiting these individuals from encroaching on the Sun Lakes property. They have done this without the need for Banning Police Department's intervention or assistance. Securitas remains vigilant as the frequency of these occurrences has increased and they continue to monitor the situation closely. Safety is a concern to everyone here. Obviously, we can't assume we are immune to break-ins and thefts. Be vigilant, lock up, and if you see something, say something! Keep your dogs leashed, keep your garage doors shut, drive defensively, and obey traffic signs. Safety Advisory Good libations and happy holidays! It was the afternoon of the Grand Opening of our new Lounge. An enthusiastic crowd of Sun Lakers was forming. Early birds were already enjoying drinks, appetizers, and spirited conversation. Cozy groups huddled on sumptuous chairs around small but functional tables, while others meandered through the crowd gazing with wonder at the exquisite décor. Music emanated from an array of speakers concealed above. Those at the bar sat comfortably elbow to elbow. Some studied the new appetizer and specialty drink menus — loaded with exotic choices — while others raved about the tasty food and drink concoctions they had already been served. The TV sets were turned on, but friendly conversation was more pressing. The words, "This place is amazing!" were spoken often, and with pride. More people arrived. Friends met friends with hugs and handshakes, oohs, and aahs, and more grins than you'd see in a parade of Cheshire cats. Most exclaimed their wonder and excitement over the remarkable transformation of this once small, dark, cramped, faded, and dated old bar and lounge. They felt as if a miracle had occurred, and quickly forgot the many months the facility had been closed. Their concerns and skepticisms had been put to rest. A butterf ly had emerged from its cocoon, and she was gorgeous and magical. They were grateful and elated to be a part of the celebration of this new life. As you plan your festive holiday schedule, be sure to include frequent stops at the new Lounge. Take time out to meet friends, appreciate and enjoy the miracle that great leadership from our visionary Sun Lakes Master Board, FirstService Residential staff, architects, builders, and design team have created.
