| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2024 | 71 Are they available OTC at Rite Aid or by RX? Really great idea, particularly this year. Victor G. Maybe it can erase the entire election cycle. Kate R. en, of course, if you're registered as an independent, you can alternate and take blue today and red next day. Emily P. Simple solution for one side not to see red or for the other to feel blue. Would that it were that easy! Jim H. OK, the post-election cure is a lovely idea. Now, if there could be a weather cure pill — maybe sky blue for a clear day, sun yellow for a warmer day — you get the dri. Regardless, I've been a fan of altering reality for years. Barbara C. Sometimes it takes more than a pill to cure the problem. Sharon K. Maybe these pills could have been useful pre-election! Lacey J. your comments: GET THE JOKE! Oce for your Sun Lakes Restaurant dinner. From Courtney, the publisher: I was thinking of memorable Christmases … the ones that come to mind aren't the ones where I got everything on my list or sang carols 'round the tree. The most memorable ones are the ones that made me stronger. The first one that comes to mind was when I was 14 and we lived in a rental house with no furniture (our furniture was in storage as we had just moved from Nebraska to Arizona and were between places). My sister and I slept on the floor on old cracked-by-the-sun chaise lounge cushions. We decorated our grocery-store, dangerously-dry Christmas tree with cotton balls we picked (illegally) from a nearby field. We hung actual socks on the mantle until I got a couple dollars together and bought two Made-In-China ones for me and my sister at the grocery store. Mom made me take them down and put the socks back up because I was ruining the theme (which was 'Poverty'). For my Big Gift, I got a laundry hamper. My sister's Big Gift was a wicker trash basket. The other gift we got that year was a tennis racquet and a can of tennis balls. One. Tennis. Racquet. It was a gift my sister and were supposed to share. We took it out to the driveway and hit a ball against the garage door which bent the frame of the racquet (it was clearly made out of aluminum foil). We had family nearby and got dressed up for Christmas Eve. Gifts were passed all around. Someone got a mink coat. I'm sure my sister and I got some clothes from my granny and aunt. But it was the laundry hamper that stayed with me. Since that had been my Big Gift, I took care of it for years. It had a crack or two when I graduated high school but I took with me to college. Other girls arrived with brand new, state-of-the-art laundry hampers and looked down their noses at my old-timey, falling-apart hamper. They didn't know it was my Big Gift. I would have shown them my tennis racquet but it hadn't survived that first test-drive. I had the hamper all through college and by the time I married at 24, it was being held together with duct tape. I couldn't part with it … it had become part of who I was. My first day of therapy years later, I started telling my therapist about my parents' divorce, etc. and he said, "I don't care. What's going on today? What is bothering you now?" I mentioned the hamper. He told me to go out and get a new one, that I DESERVED a new one. That was a revelation. I went out and got a new one. It felt so good, I bought myself a new car too. The next week I beamed when I told him about my progress. He told me I didn't need to come back to therapy. I had graduated from therapy and was free to get on with my life. Now I just throw my dirty clothes on the floor. I found the joke!
