10 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2024 | House accounts at Sun Lakes are dead, or at best mortally wounded. Their official death arrived on Nov. 30. Starting in December, if you want to eat at the clubhouse or play golf, be prepared to whip out your plastic to make it happen. House accounts are victims of the Master Board's ever challenging mission to squeeze as much as possible from operating expenses. The move is expected to save $31K annually and bring $146K forward in regular cash f lows. These financial refinements are spurred by member's decreased use of HOA amenities. Recent operating statements have made life very challenging for the Master Board of Directors. They ref lect in black and white how declining use of our amenities negatively impacts budget projections. Every business has ups and downs and we are not immune. The Board balances the community's desire for its amenities against their cost but cannot control how members participate in revenue generating activities. With very strong reserve accounts, Sun Lakes has solid financial footing. You need not worry about the HOA's solvency but we are having difficulty meeting or exceeding budget projections. The issue has carved deep division among members active in governance. The best possible remedy is greater member support of the Country Club's amenities. It's the painless fix. The reopening of our magnificently updated restaurant and lounge will significantly improve the operations outlook. So, get out and enjoy what our community has to offer. It's why so many people moved to Sun Lakes CC. ~ Cal Martin Christmas, the biggest holiday of the year, will soon arrive. With all its decorations, presents, parties, and responsibilities, it's easy for our seasonal spirit to take a trip on an angst-laden rollercoaster of emotion. But you can't escape the commercial machine that supplants the true meaning of Christmas. Less than subtle reminders abound in every store or opened mailbox. The perfect antidote is connecting with friends to celebrate. Do it in style on Sat., Dec. 21, when Districts 21 & 22 sponsor an elegant evening of food, dancing and fun. Ballroom festivities begin at 5 pm with Jamestown performing lovely seasonal selections for the cocktail hour. Order a drink at the no host bar or bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while catching up with friends. Check- out an assortment of fundraising Christmas baskets. A professional photo booth will be there so you can capture happy moments! After everyone finds a seat at their linen draped table, staff will commence their 6 pm dinner service. A classic green salad precedes the main event. Chef Joshua is preparing a dual entrée of slow braised short rib with red wine demi-glace and a chicken breast in a garlic-herb cream sauce alongside garlic green beans and scalloped potatoes. Dessert follows when petit fours are served with coffee. Then Jamestown turns up music and dancing surely follows. Everything winds down around 9 pm, because let's face it — for most of us nine o'clock is somehow much later than it once was.
