14 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2025 | Village Squares Let's Dance e Last Dance … Village Squares ended 2024 with a bang! We laid out a banquet with so many tempting foods that it was hard to choose. There were appetizers, main dishes, sides, salads, and many luscious desserts. It was a gourmet feast. After consuming as much food as we could, we knew we had to work off some of that cake and other goodies. So we all ended up on the dance floor, moving maybe a little slower at first, but picking up the pace as we soldiered on. We danced to both holiday and non-holiday music of all kinds, led by our fabulous caller, Mike Haworth. It was a night to remember and put us all in a cheerful holiday mood! Written by Valerie ompson There's a new Club in OHCC. The Let's Dance Club. Please join us as we relive the Golden Era of Music and Dance. We are excited to bring in fun entertainment, DJ'S and bands for your dancing pleasure. The input of our new members will help us guide the selection of music and sound control. So, dust off those dance shoes, gather your friends, make new friends and let's create new memories! The new Let's Dance Club will be like no other. Be sure to stop by our table on Do Dues Day - Jan. 11 at the Clubhouse OR complete a membership form which will be at the front desk. Membership is only $10 per person. We look forward to seeing you at our first event. so, LET'S DANCE! Written by Sue Silva e 2024 Graduates Level 1 Save e Date: Tues., Jan. 14, 10:30 – 11:30 am, Fun, Fit and Free! Come and by and give it a try! What do the experts say? A 2003 study in the New England Journal of Medicine by researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine discovered that dance can decidedly improve brain health. The study investigated the effect leisure activities have on the risk of dementia in the elderly. The researchers looked at the effects of 11 different types of physical activity, including cycling, golf, swimming and tennis, but found that the only one of the activities, dance, lowered participants' risk of dementia. According to researchers, dancing involves both mental effort and social interaction and that this type of stimulation helped reduce the risk of dementia. It's a lot of fun too!
