28 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2025 | Village Vets Poof, just like that 2025 is here and your Village Vets team has been working like holiday elves preparing for another year of activities and events. First up is Do Dues Day. You can pay now if you want, but we would like to see and hear from you on Jan. 11. Good news this year! We have held our dues at $10 per person for the entire year. What a deal! On Jan. 23 at 3 pm in Abravanel Hall we will have our first General Meeting. Our featured speaker will be Harriet Jo Joslyn, a volunteer Team Leader and Guardian Angel with Honor Flight San Diego (HFSD). She will share her experiences and what HFSD truly represents. Come and enjoy our speaker and the camaraderie which has made this club second to none here at Ocean Hills Country Club. Additionally, we should be able to present the full event plan for the year and hear from you as to possible other activities we may want to do or be involved in. A recent example of a fun activity was the Army Navy game viewing party that Village Vets Club member Rich Halkyard organized. A great event, but I'm sure some of you were not pleased by the outcome. Such is war on the gridiron. Your club is in good hands or at least that's what I have been told. We have a strong leadership cadre and an even stronger Board of Directors. Thanks to Smitty, our financial picture is not only strong, but his record keeping is the envy of even this former Navy Supply Corps Officer. Your Board of Directors consists of: • Bob Bechill, Commander • Pat Battles, Vice Commander • Robert "Smitty" Smith, Treasurer • Mike Welch, Secretary • Jack Shabel, Director, Webmaster, and Former Commander • David Hef ler, Director and Former Commander • Greg Coffey, Director and everything we ask him to do! • Larry Soukup, Director and another behind the scenes leader and volunteer • Bob St. Laurent, Director and The Flag Dude • Jim McDonough, Director and The Bugle Editor • Marty Budoff, Director and Head Shellback (Navy people will know what I'm talking about) If you have a question about the club or need help, contact one of the Directors. We are pretty good at finding out the answers or referring you to people who will. In closing, not only do I wish a great 2025 for everyone, but I want it to be fun! Face it, we need to enjoy the time we have left and spend our children's inheritance wisely! Written by Bob Bechill, Commander
