26 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2025 | I hope you were all able to attend our recent Holiday Concert in Abravanel Hall on Dec. 8. It's such a joy to perform in front of our friends and neighbors each year during the holiday season. A lot of work went into this concert, and I hope it was enjoyed by all that attended. If you were not able to attend, you can catch the video of the performance on the "On demand" section of the website in the near future. We won't be rehearsing or performing in January but there is a very special concert being presented on Jan. 25 in Abravanel Hall at 7 pm. Joining us for a wonderful concert will be Melissa Musial who recently starred in the musical Beautiful the Carol King Story at the Moonlight Amphitheater. Melissa was the star of the show playing the part of Carol King. She will be accompanied by Elan McMahan on the piano. Elan is the musical director at the Moonlight and has also accompanied us at some of our Choral Society Concerts. The amount of talent between these two ladies is astounding and the concert should be amazing. Tickets for this concert will be $25 and will be sold at the concierge desk in the Clubhouse. The dates of the ticket sales are Jan. 6, 8, 13, and 15 from 10 am to 2 pm. Also, don't forget Do Dues Day on Jan. 11. If you would like to be a part of our group and share the experiences, please join us. You don't have to be a singer as there are a lot of other things that are necessary to operate the Chorale and to put on our concerts. We will commence rehearsals in early February for our next concert in the spring. Our rehearsals are on Thursdays from 10:15 am until 12 pm. I sure hope you consider joining us. Come to a rehearsal and see if it is for you. New singers and volunteers to help with the Choral Society on and off stage are always welcome. Written by Jack Shabel Choral Society Although the Sewing Etc. Club didn't have a general meeting in December, that doesn't mean the members weren't busy! On a weekly basis, blankets for Project Linus are always in the works. These blankets are given to children 0-18 in the United States who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Beginning and experienced crocheters add borders to f leece fabric, creating very cozy blankets (easy to do while watching TV). The f leece fabric and yarn are usually provided as long as the blankets are to be donated. Knitters and crocheters use their talents to knit or crochet blankets for the same cause. The club has regularly scheduled Sewing Room "drop-in" hours reserved for participants to socialize while working on their various projects. Check out the following: Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 pm or so - Knitters, Crocheters, Felters, etc. - Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 pm - Sew, Craft and Chat Group. Friday mornings from 9 am to noon are reserved for Drop-In-Quilters. Friday afternoons from noon to 3 pm - Sharing Session for Sew, Knit, Etc. Every second Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm - Sit and Sew Group. In addition to these opportunities, the club also provides a variety of classes for members. Please visit our website for the schedule and more. http://ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ohccsewing If you are interested in participating in our activities or would like to make suggestions for classes or activities but are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please contact MaryLu Belisle at (952) 454-1931. All are welcome to join us. Dues are still just $7 a year. Member meetings are held at 9:30 am on the first Thursday of each month in the Mykonos Room and guests are invited. We look forward to seeing you! Submitted by Marylu Belisle Sewing Etc. Club Felted Coaster Felted Landscape Cotton Hot Pad
