10 | SUN CITY CORE COURIER | JANUARY 2025 |
By Bob Karwin, City Councilman, Menifee District 1
As many of you know, the city acquired the vacant parcel adjacent
to the Faith Lutheran Church at the intersection of Portsmouth
Drive and Roanoke Road. The plan is to construct a passive park/
greenspace for our Sun City residents. Here is the tentative timeline
for the project:
• January/February 2025 – Park development design and
construction documents tentatively completed
• March/April 2025 – CNRA appraisal review and PSA approved;
project can enter escrow
• April 2025 – Open notice inviting bids for park construction
• May 2025 – Completion of purchase and award of contract for
park construction
• June 2025 – January 2026 – Park construction
In other news, on Nov. 20, City Council approved a landscaping
contract for the improvement of the median on Cherry Hills
Boulevard in front of the SCCA main campus. The project will cost
approximately $138,000 and will include several permanent, metallic
art sculptures. The contract requires the project to be completed
within 30 working days from issuance of the city's order to proceed.
Weather permitting, we expect the work to be complete by the end
of February.
Finally, the new owners of the golf course properties have submitted
a request for a permit to demolish the North Course clubhouse next
to Jack in the Box. They determined that the building is a safety
hazard and is in too poor of a condition to repair. This permit is for
the demolition only. They have not submitted any applications for
rezoning or the building of anything on either property. Their list
of community meetings has been updated on their website: www.
