| SUN CITY CORE COURIER | JANUARY 2025 | 5 RESIDENT PROFILE Our resident adventurist swimmer, Paul Hornyak, uses the SCCA pool to keep in tip-top shape. On Oct. 18, he swam around Coronado Island in San Diego! Paul became the oldest person ever recorded to accomplish this swim of 13 miles. It took six hours and 8 minutes to complete on what was another beautiful day in San Diego. Avalon Management, along with its staff and clients, received top honors at the prestigious Community Associations Institute-Greater Inland Empire (CAI-GRIE) awards, which represents a wide range of professionals and volunteers in the Common Interest Development Industry. Each year, the best and brightest are recognized for their achievements and outstanding work at the TOPS (Top of Profession & Service) Awards. Among thousands of potential candidates, the Avalon Management team stood out for their stellar achievements and outstanding work during 2024. At the ceremony held at Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Ontario, Avalon Management received five important awards. One of these awards was Community Association of the Year for the Sun City Civic Association. This award is presented to recipients who have gone above and beyond within their communities. The SCCA was selected due to a number of unique features, activities, and programs that make this large community stand out from others in the area. The awards committee was impressed by the successful efforts to bring more to the community. The Association was also praised for focusing on helping those in need. This included: • Delivering 500 meals to residents at Thanksgiving and Christmas; • Working with Habitat for Humanity to provide assistance to those owners who may not be physically or financially able to perform certain maintenance on their homes; • Sponsored Town Hall meetings, inviting local elected officials to meet with community members; and • Providing regular events for residents to assist in getting everyone out and about. Winning this award proves that SCCA Board and residents, along with Avalon Management, make a great team and do positive things that benefit the Association and the nearby community of Menifee.
