6 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2025 | We are sitting at that time of the year, that week between Christmas and the New Year when all the hustle and bustle of Christmas is over. We just survived again the familiar sprint from anksgiving to Christmas. ere was Christmas gis to purchase (any and all ideas are welcomed) and package, friends and family potluck gatherings, club activities, and Christmas concerts and caroling. We had the Black Friday sales (this includes pre-Black Friday sales that lasted more than a week aer anksgiving). ere was Cyber Monday, Tech Tuesday, and let's make it Cyber Week. Now we can nally chill. is week is sometimes known as Twixmas, Romjul, or Feral week. ere is nothing to do or to plan to do. We can relax and hibernate, forget the day and time, eat leovers, watch a lot of football and basketball games, listen to the pundits who want to trade your favorite MLB baseball players, or read that book that you had put down several times. Relax with friends and family and have a few warm and soothing drinks. e sins of gluttony and sloth become virtues. is sedentary stasis waiting for the New Year when everything returns back to civilized decorum, goal setting, and planning. Social Committee Happy New Year! On behalf of the Landscape Committee, we wish the community a great 2025. Let's take a quick look at the activities of the Landscape Committee in 2024: • Hosted a Legends Resident's Forum in March, to provide information and receive input on concerns and challenges regarding landscaping. • Introduced several new plants to the community in an eort to nd sustainable plants that tolerate the increasingly hot summers. • e assessment of the irrigation system in the Common areas of the community, much of which nearing 20 years old. • Address critical irrigation repairs identied the assessment. • Begin to ne tune the watering of vegetation based on the plants or shrubs need for water. e assessment provided us an opportunity to replace plants based on water needs, and keeping in mind the aesthetics of the landscaping. • Continue to assess and add plants to the East Legends Paseo walkway that was relandscaped in 2023. • Begin collaboration with the Emergency Preparedness Committee on the reapplication of being a Firewise Community. • Provided a quarterly newsletter to our Legends residents. A message to new residents in the Legends homes: We appreciate your requests for replacing plants in the front, side and/or back areas of your homes that are part of the Landscaping services provided to you. We work within a yearly budget and prioritize dead or missing plants as part of the approval process in plant replacements. In some circumstances, if an owner requests to have a current, healthy plant(s) be replaced because of esthetics or other reasons, the resident may be assessed for the cost of labor and materials for the replacement. (See Architectural Standards and Regulations, last bullet point, page 28.) e Committee evaluates and makes recommendations on a case by case basis. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Volunteers of the Landscape Committee that I have been privileged to work with of the last six years. I have learned so much from our fellow residents, not only about plants, trees and landscaping, but managing the ever-changing priorities we have in order to maintain the beauty that surrounds us. At this writing, a new Chair will be selected as I resign from the Committee at this time. ank you, current and past Committee members for all of your hard work. ~ Irene Becker, Resident Landscape Committee 18 ); Four Seasons: Comedy Show (Jan. 25); Social Committee: Dueling Pianos (Feb. 21).
