| THE COLONY NEWS | JANUARY 2025 | 23 Roadrunners RV Club By Laurie Freres, 714-330-0160 It's the early 1960s and Elizabeth Zott is a brilliant chemist in a male dominated field. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, is the poignant, frustrating, and often humorous story of the unconventional Elizabeth's struggles with sexism and triumph as a TV cooking phenomenon and beyond. Join the Colony Book Readers in the Meeting Room on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 am, to discuss this delightful book. We finished 2024 with our largest trip of the year, with 45 campers and glampers enjoying the sunshine at Coachella Lakes RV Park. We all had a great time taking advantage of the amenities at the resort, which included pickleball and an 18-hole putting course, as well as exploring the surrounding area, including Joshua Tree and downtown Palm Springs. A special social event was an ice breaker game and a breakfast hosted by the campers and glampers on Via Barletta. In another activity, several of us participated in a group scavenger hunt in Indio. We had a few wrong turns and missing clues, but it was still a novel and fun way to explore the area. Some of us took advantage of playing a round of golf on one of the beautiful Palm Springs courses, while 20 other people took the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to the top, had a nice meal, strolled the exhibits and even ventured out for a little hiking. The day ended with a wonderful BBQ feast of pulled pork and all the fixins, followed by a movie at the campsite, e Long, Long Trailer, starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. It was a great way to wrap up our fourth and final trip of the year. It's surely a park we'll visit again. Our first trip for 2025 will be our 3rd annual trip to Rio Bend RV Park in El Centro for St. Patrick's Day. This is a popular trip, and we're working on the dates and group hotel accommodations for our glampers. If you're interested in this trip or would like to join the RV Club (no RV required), give me a call, text, or email me at laf lls1@sbcglobal.net. The RV Club is a good way to see new places and meet new people. We plan three to four trips per year.
