14 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2025 | Sun Lakes Committee Reports As we welcome a new year, there will be opportunities, challenges, and obstacles as we pursue our goals and objectives. Let's welcome this in terms of helping with other activities, our clubs, and having fun! Our new books and puzzles have arrived and are displayed in all four libraries. Through the generous assistance of a local bookstore, we obtained many novels from popular authors (you indicated in our library survey). We have both hardback and paperback, some with large print, such as e Readers Digest short stories (they will be found in the paperback library). In addition, we have audiobooks in the paperback library (end aisle). Our Library Committee needs volunteers and committee members; if you are interested, please call or text Peter Fernandez at (626) 379-7372 or John Hasha at (626) 533-5098. Let's try to enjoy every day of the new year and make it meaningful for ourselves and others. ~ John Hasha, hashajohn@gmail.com Library Advisory Happy New Year! Chef Joshua will be providing delicious dinner entrees from our Restaurant for our enjoyment. The bar window will be open for beverage purchases. Both require a credit card for payment, no cash. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Royer at (575) 202-6266. Bingo Advisory In our brief November Committee meeting we had an open discussion regarding the operational but consequently poor financial performance of the Food & Beverage Department. Our conclusion was to recommend the Board review the continued performance level and make some critical decisions going forward. HOA Operating Income YTD ..................... $1,463,177 Golf (Loss) YTD ...................................... ($1,159,252) F&B (Loss) YTD ...................................... ($ 731,304) All HOA Activity Net YTD ......................... ($427,379) For more financial information please refer to the Board Treasurer's report which shows the precarious cash f low position that also needs to be addressed. In addition, we have sent the Board a request to approve a detailed review of some balance sheet accounts and general ledger accounts. The Board and Finance Committee won't receive the December financials until approximately Jan. 15. At that time, we will review and forward to the Board information regarding the year end results of the various department budgets, reserve expenditures, project expense updates, operating cash, labor expenses, department revenues and contract expenses. The objective is to present a clear picture of the year end accounts. Join us for a meeting if you're interested in the communities' financial picture. We meet every third Wednesday at 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Our next meeting is Jan. 15. ~ Mary Jo McElwain, FAC Chair Financial Advisory
