| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2025 | 71 We could also play "Pony Express." (It's like Post Oce, but with a little more horsing around). Emily P. What a fab idea! is will draw such crowds that the ballroom will be needed. e music will have to be quite loud to drown out the creaks and moans from all the bending over. I think one category for prize-winning would be anyone who can still stand up straight aer the game. Count me in! Barbara C. If I could count past 10 without taking o my shoes, I'd play. Desmond D. your comments: GET THE JOKE! If you are the first correct guess chosen at random, you will win a free dinner. Congratulations to this month's Dinner Winner: CHARLIE FRIESE Please call Monica in the Admin. Oce for your Sun Lakes Restaurant dinner. From Courtney, the publisher: New Year's resolutions time. I am not a fan. But then, I don't like being told what to do by anyone, even me. There was a meme two people sent me recently that said, "If I'm told to take it down a notch, I'm going to take it up five notches," then they wrote "YOU." Yes, it is me. Why is that? Maybe because I was raised to do as I was told, to fulfill expectations, not deviate from the master plan. After my first year of college, I told my dad I wanted to be a lawyer. I'd taken an international law class and really enjoyed the broad scope of the law. He said, "There are too many lawyers. Pick something else." I didn't have anything else that I really liked outside of reading. I ended up getting my degree in English Lit. It didn't really tee up a career path so I started my own business in graphic design. And here we are. What was I talking about? Oh yeah — why I don't like being told what to do. Been there. Done that. Two thumbs down. But resolutions are little promises to do better by me. Take care of me. Be kind to me. Things that are anathema to me. It seems indulgent and selfish. Who do I think I am treating myself nicely? A little big for my britches? Putting on airs? I took a writing class years ago at the community center. One night I walked out with the instructor and we were parked next to each other. I had a Mercedes Benz 320 convertible at the time. She said, "Must be nice." I immediately felt bad and said, "It was used when I bought it — it wasn't very expensive. I traded in another car as a down payment." I was apologizing. Later I wish I had said, "Yeah. It is nice." Then I wish I had gotten in the car, put down the top, blasted some offensive rap music, and peeled away from her, leaving her standing in my swirling dust. Also I was a better writer than she was and wish I had mentioned that in the class. I'm off track again. New Year's resolutions. They should be specific. "Be nice to me" is pretty vague. When I was in therapy years ago that was the one thing my therapist said I needed to learn. It's okay to be nice to myself. Okay. Deep breath. Here we go: • Monthly facial. I love facials and it's okay to let someone rub pretty smelling lotion on my face for an hour. • Get rid of the socks in my sock drawer that I don't like. • Eat more salads. Not specific enough. Eat four salads a week. • Walk every day. There's never a walk I take that when I get home I say, "I wish I hadn't done that!" That's a pretty good list. Doable. If I do those things it will be like someone is looking out for me. Like someone loves me. I guess it's about time it's me. I found the joke! It's that classic game you surely remember from your childhood … 52 Card Pick Up! We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 4 pm in the Game Room for this game of skill, strategy, and wit. The game is simple, at first, but you'll soon realize it takes everything you have — emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, and physically — to triumph. Top hats are required, of course, and we suggest you carb load the night before. There will be the traditional 52 Card Pick Up reggae music playing during games. Because of an unfortunate incident, we no longer allow weapons of any kind, INCLUDING BROADSWORDS (for the 10th time, Kevin). Anyone can watch but in order to play, you must proclaim your allegiance to Costco's brand before the game commences (if you don't know the Kirkland Pledge, we will teach you). If you have any questions, please call Grover at (909) 797- 3647. ~ G. Cleveland
