42 | LIFE IN SOLERA | JANUARY 2025 |
Hopefully you had a wonderful holiday season. If you
are trying to find a new activity to motivate you after a
relaxing holiday season, come join us for pickleball. On
Dec. 6, we had our annual Christmas party. As you can
see from the pictures, fun was had by all. We started
out with a wonderful meal catered by Pam and Dan
from Blackberry Farms. Thank you Richard Chabolla
for recommending them. They provided barbecued
chicken and brisket along with Mac n cheese and
baked beans. In addition, many delicious appetizers,
side dishes and desserts were brought by attendees.
After dinner, a video of the highlights of the year was
presented. It was fun to relive some good times and
fun play. A Christmas trivia game was next with a
prize given to Stu Osborne for being top scorer. This
was followed by a drawing where gift cards were won.
Lastly, Gaby DeWitt led a white elephant game that was
filled with surprises. It seems that hand warmers are
a hot ticket.
I would like to thank Martha Hubbs for collecting
the money, organizing the appetizers and desserts
and buying the gift cards. Rene Johnstone provided
wonderful centerpieces for the tables. Amy Dietz
helped by providing table cloths and leading the set up.
Kathy Mathews helped by setting up and making sure
things got cleaned up when everybody left.
As the temperatures fall, you will still find some of
our more dedicated players on the courts Mondays,
Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 to 10 am or so. It
seems that as soon as the sun comes up, there are people
preparing to play Pickleball. If you are interested in
learning our game and don't mind some chilly weather,
come join us. Court shoes are recommended over
running shoes. We have paddles that you can borrow
for the morning, so try us before you buy a paddle.
