Spruce Up Your Landscaping
During the winter months, it may not always
be necessary to water your plants, but dry
periods often require you to continue with
your landscape irrigation routine. To prevent
rot, avoid getting the stems and leaves of your
plants wet and focus on thoroughly soaking the
roots instead. It's best to water your plants in
the morning to avoid creating damp conditions
overnight which can lead to the growth of
fungi. Aim to water at least twice a week.
When it comes to pruning, a good rule of
thumb is to prune shrubs and trees that bloom
on new growth in the winter and early spring,
while those that bloom on old growth should
be pruned in late spring or summer, after their
flowers have faded. Winter is a time when
many plants go dormant, and while pruning
certain dormant plants during this time may
prevent them from reviving, others will benefit
from being pruned now.
Ensure that your drains are clear of debris
and easily accessible. In your rear yard, flush
out the drain at the street by putting a hose
down it. When filling out a Home Improvement
Application, remember to indicate where
the drains are located to ensure they are not
covered with cement, grass, dirt, or any other
obstacles.
