50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2025
TOPS
TOPS means Take Off Pounds Sensibly, and as we are facing a
new year, we can look back at how we handled the many events of
2024. Many of us had grand ideas on what a perfect holiday looked
like, and we were either stressed by trying to make that happen or
too exhausted to enjoy the holiday when it arrived. Here are some
tips that may help you at your next event.
1. Look at the plans you have for yourself and then look again to
see if they are realistic. Can I really accomplish everything
on my list without working myself into the ground?
2. We all have special things that "have" to be part of our lives.
Remember, that not everything has to be done that way
just because "we've always done it that way." Meals can be
served buffet-style on paper plates. Do the things that make
you happy.
3. We tend to want to do things ourselves. Enlist help. You
don't have to do everything yourself. Others may be able
to help with the meal. Maybe it is something as simple as
having others help with the cleanup.
4. All of our gatherings tend to involve food and that can be a
real downer for members who have worked so hard during
the year to lose weight and/or maintain their KOPS status
(those who have achieved their goal weight). DON'T GIVE
UP or expect to gain it all back at these few meals. Make
sure you are able to eat a little of your special favorites. The
key here is don't feel deprived, but don't think you have to
"eat the whole thing." If you eat everything, you will feel
uncomfortably full and will be filled with regret.
5. Take a walk. Breathe in the crisp fresh air and observe
the winter show that nature puts on. Keep your thoughts
positive. These days are full of fun times with family and
friends and the food is just "incidental."
You may find that a group like TOPS can help you as well.
