| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2025 |27 Art Lovers 2024 proved to be a very busy and exciting year for The Art Lovers Club. In January, we held our very popular "Treasures Meeting" where members brought interesting pieces of art to share at the meeting. In February and March, we took a record number of members on car trips to view the Van Gogh and Monet Exhibits at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. In April, we welcomed Selma Leighton as our speaker who delighted us with her favorite pieces of art in her art collection. In May for our 40th Anniversary Celebration, we had Kathleen Scoggin paint a wonderful abstract painting in an hour right before our eyes. In June, Art Lovers enjoyed the Art Exhibits at the Oceanside Museum of Art. In August, Susan and Ernie Pick gave a presentation on the Art of Germany and Switzerland. In September, we took a car trip to The Craftsman Museum and The Cannon Gallery both in Carlsbad. In October we took a bus trip to The Main Getty Museum in LA, and in November, we had Alyson Benford, the Curator of Art Exhibits for The City of Carlsbad speak to us. To round out the year we had our annual Holiday Luncheon at Shadowridge Country Club with a record attendance. Amy Forsythe, a photographer who served several times in Afghanistan was our guest speaker. For 2025 we will again have our very popular Treasures Meeting where we will all enjoy seeing beautiful and interesting pieces of art from our members. The stories behind the artworks are always very heartwarming! In addition to 5 speakers in 2025, we will also have a total of five car trips or bus trips. We are thinking about the following car trips and bus trips: Fallbrook Art Center, Oceanside Museum of Art, Art Alive in Balboa Park, Hilbert Museum in Orange County, Niki d' Saint Phalle Sculpture Exhibit in Kit Carson Park in Escondido and The Escondido Arts Partnership Gallery, Bus Trip to The Broad or to The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. If any of you have any other suggestions for speakers or trips, please call Susan Pick at (760) 305-8907 or email me at: erniepick@ netzero.net. We also need a person to write the OHCC Articles, create flyers and send out emails to our members. A very happy and healthy 2025 to all! We are delighted to "officially" welcome Mike Thornton as a vital member of our Art Studio Installation Team, and we thank him for his work installing the wires necessary to ensure the safety of the beautiful art provided by our residents. We welcome you to the newly installed watercolor exhibit featuring the varied works of our resident colorists! Some of the artists have been painting for more than twenty years, others for only a few weeks! The more experienced painters enjoy gathering at 1 pm on Mondays and each person paints independently, whatever they want. They do not have an instructor. They also select a subject for one painting each month to share with the group. Occasionally, the 1 pm group hires an outside artist who contributes ideas and techniques. They joyfully gather several times a year for a "Paint and Sip" party to celebrate their love of art and friendships. Sounds like a terrific group and fun to be with! The beginner class is held at 3:15 pm on Mondays for five weeks, twice a year. These classes are led by Cindi DeWeese and Shellie Bean. As always, we encourage you to enjoy the new watercolor exhibit on display with works by experienced and beginner painters. May you enjoy the festivities of February and celebrate our loving community! Happy Valentine's Day! We are always interested in welcoming new artists. To display your creations, please contact the writers of this article, Judy Harris or Lainy Vinikow, for your opportunity to WOW your neighbors! Written by Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow Art Studio
