| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2025 | 33 Woodchucks Lions & Tigers & Woodchucks… OH MY! If the "yellow brick road" ran through Camp Pendleton, Dorothy would have replaced the bear in her story with a kind and generous Woodchuck. We know this to be true after receiving the numerous thank-you notes from Pendleton families and the Base Commander. A happy example is from the Garcia Family: "ank you Ocean Hills and Woodchucks for the amazing gis to our military families. anks to you we are able to make Christmas happy for our children. We appreciate you from the bottom of our hearts. ank you, the Garcia Family" … OH MY! The Chuckers have cleaned up the shop, cleared the storage, and sharpened the tools in preparation for our Members' tasks. Our goal is to surpass the records of last year's creations, and we each have our own game plan. Some have designated an hour or two each week to the making of sawdust and toys. This is certainly a good way to be involved. Pictured is Brian Buchan, who has taken his commitment to the next level. Most mornings he can be found at the woodshop's small lathe, turning stunning wooden pens to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Shown are some of his creations. Thank you, Brian. We welcome our new Woodchuck Members, and hope that when the "Honey-Do" list is manageable, you will add to the joy we strive to give. Written by Tom & Betsy Murphy Happy Valentine's Day to you. May this month bring sweet happiness to you and your loved ones. The Travel Club is busy planning day trips to parts of Southern California. Places we would like to visit and hope you will also. If there is a place you would like to visit or experience, please feel free to contact our President Adele Siesel (adelesiesel2@gmail.com) with your suggestions. Here are our upcoming trips: Feb. 19: Alpine Wild Adventure. Come join us for a tour of Lions, Tigers and Bears, a sanctuary for exotic animals such as the afore mentioned plus bobcats, leopards, llamas, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, peacocks and a macaw! Following the tour, we will head to Viejas Casino where you may try your luck at any of the games or slot machines. Additionally, there is an outlet mall across from the Casino with a food court. April 16: Kimberly Crest House & Gardens in Redlands featuring a Victorian Chateau and Italian Renaissance-style garden. The house, built in 1897, is a charming example of life during the Gilded Age in Southern California. Following our tour, we head to the nearby A.K. Smiley Public Library, built in 1894. May 20: Reagan Library and the Dead Sea Scrolls. This is a once in a lifetime experience to view eight authentic Dead Sea Scrolls and over 200 artifacts from the Second Temple period including the Magdala Stone and objects from Masada. Aug. 13: Pageant of the Masters. A favorite trip to Laguna Beach to see this outdoor theatrical performance where famous works of art are brought to life onstage. This year's theme is GOLD COAST: Treasures of California. Frequently people on a trip need to cancel. Many people on our wait lists actually have had the opportunity to go on our trips. To be placed on the waitlist or to register for any of our trips, leave a check made out to the OH Travel Club, in the Travel Club envelope at the Clubhouse Front Desk. Add $5 to the price if you are not a member of the Club. You will receive an email confirming your registration. We certainly hope you will join us on one of our trips!
