QUILTERS
February - the month of LOVE! And we
quilters certainly do love our craft.
Here's some quilting trivia to ref lect the love
of quilting around the world.
• Quilting has ancient roots. The earliest
known quilted piece dates back to 3400 BCE in
Egypt where a figure of a pharaoh was found
wearing a quilted robe.
• Quilts were used as currency by pioneers
during the expansion into the Western United States.
• The most expensive quilt ever sold was $264,000 in 1991.
Adjusted for inf lation, that's $613,546 in 2025!
• Quilters are everywhere. There are over seven
million quilters in the U.S. alone, with the average
quilter buying 99 yards of fabric a year! (I have
that much in one room alone!)
• The quilting bee originated in the 1800s where
communities came together to quilt and socialize.
Like the Solera Quilters do every Monday!
• Beginner quilters spend an average of 6.9 hours
a week on their craft, while advanced quilters
spend around 18 hours. Plus, almost eight hours a week visiting
online sites to learn more and see what's new.
The Knit and Crochet group enjoyed a holiday brunch
at the home of Caryl Kay. Good food, company and lots of
sharing and some fun small gifts exchanged made for an
enjoyable time. Our group had the Clubhouse hobby window
for January with lots of our completed projects on display.
We all are looking forward to new projects and sharing time
together in the New Year. Health and happiness wishes to
our fellow Solera-ites.
