December was the last competition of the Tournament year of 2024 for Jack and Jill, and also the culmination of the Award Banquets. If you were not in attendance, you missed the best of the best. I think I speak for all when I say that it was a great year and the most enjoyable banquet event to date. It was also an "appreciation" night by recognizing those who have made Jack and Jill the enjoyably fun event that it is. ose honored were some who remain in the shadows of the J&J events, starting with John Murphy, who for over 20+ years has kept our tournament (as well as the CMGC, CWGC, GOBs and 2Ball) soware current and operational, quietly doing the job he loves to do. As he once said to me, "I do this because I am an engineer, and I like to x things that are broken." We all have come to John with things that are at times broken, and he, like a true engineer, xes them. Also honored was the Jack and Jill volunteer team who keep this event that I am honored to be associated with operating. We also took a trip down memory lane with new players and DARWIN recipients during the 2024 season, and we honored the new recipients of the Mr. and Ms. Jack and Jill. Bruce and Ann Hartwig passed the baton from 2023 to the 2024 winners, Larry Determan and Vicky Cornille. When the tournament ended, the following posted winning positions: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1st 51.997 John and Anita Hoetker, Dick and Kay Farland 2nd 52.603 Ron Brown, Marge Anderson, Terry Lundquist and Sue Jordan 3rd 52.801 Charles Craven, Linda Peterson, Bob Miller and Debbie Johnson "B" Flight 1st 52.087 Rick Lake, Roswitha Melander, Greg Gries and Bea Brown 2nd 52.542 Malcolm Grant, Sherry Roberts, Bill and Susan Connelly 3rd 55.109 Michael and Leigh Tsumura, Leo and Karen Alonso Closest to the Pin #5 Women, Debbie Johnson – 5'8" / Men, Rick Lake – 23'2" #15 Women, Barbara Keen – 33'5" / Men, Ron Brown – 10'1" #16 Team #16 John and Anita Hoetker, Dick and Kay Farland – 7'5.5" e Darwin Award goes to Bea Brown, who mismarked both the CPT & scorecard. Contacted to verify CPT distance, she asked me to correct scorecard "Net Score." Our next contest is set for ursday, Feb. 13, with another two-ight event the "A & B Format." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition.
