| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2025 | 29 Art League February is the month for lovers in general and art lovers in particular. Gustav Klimt (1862- 1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter and a prominent member of the Vienna Secession movement. Early in his career he was a successful painter of architectural decorations. He is noted for his sketches, paintings, and murals, achieving great success with the paintings of his "golden phase" in which gold leaf was used extensively. Although he never married his longtime companion, Emilie Floge, she remained with him until his death. e Kiss is thought to be an image of them as lovers. Thank you, Suni Godbold, for being our January guest artist. Those who attended her subsequent classes in acrylic pour painting left with enhanced knowledge of this artistic skill and beautiful works of their own. Our monthly mini art show was, as always, well represented with the many talents of our wonderful artists (beginner to accomplished). We welcome members to show as often as they wish, but please, one entry per artist. Winners will be published in a future article. This month we are proud to welcome Sun Lakes resident artist, Joe Oakes, who will give an acrylic painting tutorial that will highlight his outstanding talent in this medium. Please join us Sun., Feb. 9 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Joe's classes are popular and space is limited, so please be sure to sign up at this time ($30 members. $35 non-members) or contact Shirley Anderson at (951) 434-7930). His classes begin Mon., Feb. 10, with subsequent classes on Feb. 17 and 24. All classes are from 9 am to 12 pm in the Main Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room. Art League membership is open to all Sun Lakes residents; practicing artists, art lovers, or simply those looking to learn a new skill and enhance their knowledge.
