Now that we are into the new year, how are you doing on your
resolutions? Do any of them involve writing? If so, join the club …
the Creative Writers Club, that is. See if one of these scenarios applies
to you.
Are you stuck on deciding between more than one genre? For
example, maybe you plan to write a novel and a family history. To get
the creative juices flowing, choose the option that leads to progress
more quickly. For example, a family tree and living senior family
members with stories and letters will get you going.
Or perhaps you are writing a novel, and you have writers block.
If your block is character development, just write. The characters
will evolve with the plot, an effective approach. If your block is the
denouement, resist spelling everything out for the reader. Let the
reader be an active participant in the process. If you have developed
the novel well, the reader will have plenty of available material, much
as a jury uses facts to draw conclusions. Allow the reader to deduce
the meaning.
Last but not least, allow yourself to seek guidance from fellow
writers. Tell them what your block is without going into detail.
They can then make suggestions about alternatives and leave you to
implement their suggestions.
Our Creative Writers Club has several experienced writers in many
forms of literature. Come join us at Creative Writers Club meetings
to share your ideas in a friendly setting, and listen to the writings and
opinions of others. You will find this very stimulating.
