The Song You Thought You Knew, The Story You Won't Believe:
Interviews with many musicians about this hit and its origins. This
is a documentary romp through the history, mystery and meaning
of the great Jewish standard. The film follows the ubiquitous party
song on its fascinating journey from the shtetls of Eastern Europe to
the kibbutzim of Israel to the cul-de-sacs of America.
It's also the name of a well-known Israeli folk song that's often
played at Jewish weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other celebrations.
The song's melody is based on a Hasidic tune, and the lyrics are
derived from the Psalms.
A movie from 2012 about the history of a Jewish song. This
song is to music what the bagel is to food. A Jewish staple that has
transcended its origins and became a worldwide hit. The song's
lyrics include "Let's rejoice, let's rejoice, let's rejoice and be happy."
